Ring generated sports betting wagers of US$340 million

The 43-year-old ringleader of one of Vietnam's biggest yet illegal online sports betting enterprises, Bui Quang Duong, has been arrested after being on the run for a month.
Last month local police investigations across several northern provinces and Hai Phong culminated in a series of raids and the arrest of 23 individuals on illegal online sports betting charges.
Police revealed that the illegal business had generated the equivalent of over $340 million in wagers through offshore websites since June last year, but said that the ringleader was still being sought.
In reporting Duong's arrest Tuesday, Hai Phong police said that he had escaped by boat to the town of Ha Long in Quang Ninh province, but that he had been tracked down and after being detained had admitted guilt. He will face trial once investigations are complete.
