Resorts In Atlantic City Awarded New Jersey Online Gambling Licence

Company has some powerful partners

Atlantic City's Resorts Casino Hotel, using the title Resorts Digital, has achieved full online gambling licensing from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
Resorts has been offering remote gambling since March at resortscasino.com – and since last month at mohegansuncasino.com, using the Mohegan Sun licence. Mohegan Sun is a part-owner of Resorts. The new licence empowers Resorts Digital take over the entire operation.
Tim Ebling, Resorts' chief financial officer, said that the company's priority was to get online gaming up and running in March, which was why the casino used the "organizational structure" of the other businesses to initially launch internet operations.
Mark Giannantonio, Resorts' president and CEO, said the company was "the first casino company in the country to open a digital gaming lounge" on its own property. "To me, that's the greatest marketing we can have," he said, adding that virtual casino operations had boosted interest in the company's land operations.
"Our online volume of business is made up of about 50 percent of bricks-and-mortar (Resorts) customers – and about 58 percent of them were inactive before resortscasino.com went online, Giannantonio said, adding that the online business "has helped our land-based casino."
On Wednesday, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission (CCC) granted Resorts' request to transfer its internet gaming assets to a new entity, Resorts Digital Gaming LLC.
Resorts has online partnerships with NYX Gaming Group, and a deal contingent on Pokerstars achieving online licensing in New Jersey with Amaya Gaming (see previous InfoPowa reports). Amaya has said it expects to get the DGE's approval sometime in the third quarter.
DGE July results show that Resorts' July overall win was up 20.8 percent year-on-year, the biggest single increase of any of Atlantic City's eight current casinos.
