Malta Online Gambling Firms Warned That The German Taxman Is Watching

German law expert warns that the German tax authorities are scrutinising sites accessing German internet punters

The Times of Malta reports that several Malta-based internet gaming operators have received letters from the German tax authorities investigating their tax liability in Germany.
The newspaper quotes Joerg Hofmann, an attorney at German law firm Melchers, who claims that German tax prosecutors have recently started to investigate international i-gaming companies accessing the German market, and view Malta-based operators as being subject to German VAT and sports betting tax if the German market is targeted.
Not reporting these taxes to the German fiscal authorities may incur criminal liability for the directors and serious fines for companies due to tax evasion, Hofman warned.
