Ongoing operation discovers major international gambling ring

China's Ministry of Public Security said today it had arrested ninety-eight suspects in a major international online gambling operation estimated to have taken Yuan 500 billion (GBP 51,53 billion) in wagers.
According to the Ministry, the operation boasted around one-million users, mainly from the Chinese mainland.
Police in Guangdong and Hunan provinces shut down over 500 underground gambling websites linked to the ring in its ongoing crackdown on illegal internet gambling.
"Due to people seeking huge benefits, and loopholes in social management, large numbers of people have become addicted to gambling, posing a serious threat to family harmony and social stability," a ministry statement said.
