Amendments on problem gambling from Upper House now included

Lawmakers in the Japanese Diet Lower House had a long day Wednesday as they re-voted to ratify amendments to a gambling bill that will for the first time permit the operation of licensed casino resorts.
The amendments to the Lower House bill, which was approved on December 6, were made by the Upper House and mainly concerned problem gambling provisions. They came after a hard day in the Upper House in which the bill was finally pushed through with the changes, then returned to the Lower House.
The Lower House approval of the changes took the session into the early hours of Thursday morning, according to local press reports, but resulted in the bill finally being approved.
