31-year-old takes down $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event

Fabian Quoss, a 31-year-old professional poker player from Nuremburg in Germany travelled a long way to take part in the $100,000 buy-in 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller event this week, but it was worth the time and trouble as he emerged with the winner’s check for $1,629,940.

The German player bested 55 other entrants in a stellar registration list that eventually played down to a final table comprising Quoss and experienced players like Dan Shak, Vanessa Selbst, Antonio Esfandiari, Matt Glantz and Tony Gregg – all from the United States; Ole Schemion from Austria; and Canadian Mike McDonald.

When Selbst went out at third place for $760,640, Quoss was left facing Dan Shak. The German held a more than 2 to 1 advantage in chips as the heads up stage commenced which, combined with good cards and his undoubted talent, enabled him to defeat his American opponent and claim the main prize, which brings his career earnings to almost $4.5 million.

Shak took home the runner up prize of $1,178,980.

Quoss now joins other top German high stakes players like Igor Kurganov and Philipp Gruissem who have made the international headlines in recent months, earning millions of dollars at international final tables.

Other final table pay-outs in the PAC Super High Roller included:

4th: Antonio Esfandiari $575,920

5th: Matt Glantz $445,520

6th: Tony Gregg $347,720

7th: Ole Schemion $277,080

8th: Mike McDonald $217,320
