Poland Drafts Online Gambling Amendment To Gambling Act

New proposal takes a more liberal approach to licensing and regulation

Things could be looking up for online gambling in Poland following the news that the government has drafted a more liberal amendment to the Gambling Act concerning internet and mobile gambling, making it a little easier for foreign operators to seek and obtain licensing and pay taxes.

The new draft follows European Commission reservations regarding the compliance with EU principles of the former legislation.

Important changes in the new draft include the removal of obstacles that required operators to restrict their offer and presence within Polish national borders. This has been changed to permit European Union licensed operators to operate in the Polish market, provided that they pay Polish taxes.

Applications and supporting financial and other documents will have to be submitted in the Polish language.

Observers note that the changes could open the way for the implementation of online gambling licensing and regulation within the next year, if lawmakers give their approval.
