Sportech To Take Another Stab At Vat Claim (update)

HMRC to be brought back to court on appeal

Sportech PLC has been granted the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal regarding a GBP 93 million VAT repayment claim on its "Spot the Ball" game.

The long running issue has been under scrutiny and in and out of the UK courts since March 2013 (see previous InfoPowa reports).

In 2014, the First-tier's Tribunal Tax Chamber ruled in favour of Sportech's claim ordering a VAT amount of GBP 93 million be repaid to Sportech by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC), however, the courts later ruled in favour of HMRC on appeal.

The hearing is expected to take place later this year.
