Swedish Government Delays Gambling Reform

Budget comes first, says Public Administration Minister
Apparently undeterred by being referred to the European Court of Justice by the European Commission for having non-compliant gambling laws, the Swedish government has indicated that its gambling reform laws are on the back burner until mid-2015.
Advising that parliament is currently focused on budgetary debates, Public Administration Minister Ardalan Shekarabi said that gambling reform would be on hold until the more urgent issues surrounding the budget had been resolved.
Shekarabi noted that the government continues to have concerns on advertising and problem gambling related to the impact of revised laws opening up the market in Sweden. The regulator is already wrestling with gambling advertisements placed by companies that are not authorised to operate in Sweden, he observed.
