Legalising Fantasy Sports In Kansas

New bill reverses KRGC interpretation of State Law

Republican Representative Brett Hildabrand introduced a new bill this week which would effectively reverse the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission's (KRGC) interpretation of State law which determines fantasy sports as a game of chance or lottery rather than a game of skill.

Judy Taylor, general counsel for the KRGC, says the commission's interpretation of fantasy sports has stood for several years.

Hildabrand's proposal has yet to gather opposition and is believed to stand a strong chance of making it through the Kansas legislature.

"I want to make sure those chances are zero [of going to jail for playing fantasy sports]," commented Hildabrand. "This is an innocent activity that thousands of Kansans participate in and I would say the vast majority have no idea they're even breaking the law, so I just want to make sure they're protected."
