Palermo shops allegedly facilitated online gambling through Malta sites

A number of illegal betting shops in the Sicilian city of Palermo were raided by the Italian Fiscal Police Friday after reports that illegal online sportsbetting through sites based in Malta was being facilitated.

Two men were arrested and 11 computer sets seized, along with other evidence.

A police spokesman said that the shops were not licensed according to the State Monopolies Administration and with the Public Security Commission, and allowed gamblers to place illegal bets in conjunction with foreign bookmakers which are not authorised to conduct such business in Italy.
