“Germany is known for its passionate sports fans”
A beta version of the DraftKings platform went live in Germany and Malta yesterday after receiving one of the newly minted Malta Gaming Authority Skill Games licences in February.
The Skill Games Regulations came into force in Malta in January of this year creating a framework for the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) to offer a new type of license specifically for skill games — including daily fantasy sports (DFS).
According to their website, DraftKings now offers the same ten sports in Germany and Malta that are currently offered by them in the USA. This includes seven leagues of soccer, NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, golf, NASCAR, eSports and MMA.
Liquidity is shared across their global network.
DraftKings, based in Boston Massachusetts with offices in Malta, launched in the UK in February 2016. This is their first move into the rest of Europe.
Why Germany? “Germany is known for its passionate sports fans, and we are pleased to welcome them all to our platform,” said Jeffrey Haas, DraftKings’ Chief International Officer.
“Germans show a proclivity for American sports, particularly the NFL and NBA,” said Haas “Initial testing in Germany shows that our most popular sport has been the NBA, which is why we are opening our beta test to all German sports fans.”
