Latest figures show that online sports betting generated turnover of Euro 391.8 million in December 2016

The latest numbers from the Italian regulator show that online sports betting remains king when it comes to internet gambling in the market, generating Euro 391.8 million in turnover in December 2016.
That's a very healthy proportion of the total sports betting turnover created of Euro 770 million, and brings general gambling turnover for 2016 in Italy up 35 percent y-o-y to Euro 7.5 billion. Euro 4 billion of that came from the online sector, which showed a 46 percent improvement y-o-y.
December's market leader remained bet365 on turnover of Euro 128 million, with nearest rival Eurobet (Gala Coral) trailing on Euro 37 million. The gap between Eurobet and the next best performer, Sisal was lower – Sisal delivered turnover of Euro 32.3 million, followed by Snai-Cogetech (Euro 29.8 million) and Lottomatica (Euro 22.7 million). Newbie market entry Sky Betting reported turnover of just Euro 600,000.
Italian online casino revenue reached Euro 45 million in December, boosting the final annual number from the vertical to Euro 438.9 million – a 34 percent year-on-year improvement.
The online casino sector leader was Lottomatica with 11 percent market share, followed by Sisal (8.5 percent), PokerStars (7.8 percent), Eurobet (6.6 percent) and William Hill (6.2 percent).
PokerStars remains tops in online poker in Italy, holding a 74.4 percent of the tournament market and 46.4 percent of the cash games sector.
The bad news is that the online poker vertical continued to decline in Italy with tournament stakes at Euro 7.2 million and cash game stakes at Euro 6.5 million in December….that brought the annual tournament number for the vertical to Euro 69.6 million (down 2.4 percent y-o-y) and the cash game figure for the year to Euro 83.7 million (down 9.8 percent y-o-y).
Italian online bingo showed a 7.1 percent improvement in revenue to Euro 27.3 million in 2016, whilst the nation's four land casinos generated revenue of Euro 292.7 million, mostly from slots action.
