50 computers seized in police action

The police in Bangkok reported Friday that raids across 18 locations in the city have resulted in the shutdown of online gambling activities, the arrest of 16 people and the confiscation of 50 computers and other evidence.
A spokesman said that the illegal gambling ring had generated around Bt 100 million a month, and that the Anti-Money Laundering Office will investigate related financial transactions which could lead to further arrests.
The police Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) chief Pol Maj-General Suphaset Chokchai told the press that 10 women and six men were arrested and face charges of gambling promotion and money laundering.
The Anti-Money Laundering Office had additionally already frozen Bt10 million in 38 bank accounts held by members of the online gambling network, he revealed.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has called on local Internet service providers to check if there were Internet links to facilitate online gambling in neighbouring countries.
