Move To Tighten Philippines Online Gambling Regulations

HB4540 proposes tighter monitoring, particularly on the under-aged
Policeman turned Philippines lawmaker Rep. Samuel Pagdilao is concerned about the dangers to young people that he feels online gambling represents, and this week launched House bill 4540 in an attempt to tighten regulation.
The Philippine Star reports that the bill seeks to more closely monitor Internet gambling and protect minors in the region.
HB4540 carries punitive measures, providing for imprisonment from five years to 10 years or a fine ranging from P5 million to P10 million or both if any Philippines licensee or employee of an online gaming firm allows a person under 18 years of age to open, maintain or use an Internet gaming account (the region has a plethora of internet cafe gambling sites licensed by a local company).
A penalty of imprisonment from 5 years to 10 years or a fine of P100,000 or both is proposed for any parent or guardian who allows minors to gamble online.
