Were they right to do so?

Ok, first off, this isnt a complaint of any sort, therefor im not posting it under complaints. I just came to think of something, and I was wondering your opinion on this.

About 1.5 year ago, cant remember exactly the date, I registered at a Microgaming Casino, since this is not a complaint, I wil not state which casino it was, but story story goes as this.

Since im from Norway, there really isnt any currency that is "mine". Therefor I tend to play in , don't ask me why. Anyways, so I register at this MG casino, and I play for like half an hour or so, the slots were really hot and I drive my 100 deposit up to around 300 I think it was. For the record I did not take a bonus, and I still don't, as I dont want the bother of meating WR etc. So I drive my deposit up too around 300, I suddenly I get the message that my account is locked. I have no idea why it is locked, and I send the casino an email, asking what is going on. They reply that I have registered an account in , while not living in Britain. I was then given a link to their TC which quite shocked me. There, in the text, they stated that if you registered an account in while not living in Britain, they would close your account, and TAKE your deposit AND winnings... I was furious and called them on the phone asking what the f...k they were doing, but they said they were sorry (sure they were, lol) and that there was nothing they could do....

So basicly, I lost my winnings and my deposit. This was before I even knew Casinomeister existed, so I had no ways of complaining.

My question is, is it OK for casinos to put this in their TC? Why was I able to register an account in , when I had chosen an non-british homecountry? My guess is that they saw this as an easy trap and an road to free money.

If I had known about Casinomeister back then, do you think it would have mattered? Or are this basicly "legal" from the casinos side?

There is not a chance in hell I can complain now, but this is a question I have asked myself a few times, and this time I got around to ask about it.

There were two players recently; one used a bonus, the other didn't. They both had their winnings confiscated per the terms.

I have an opinion: if the casino accepted a wager in seashells or cowdung they should pay the result in seashells or cowdung. Anything else is human dung. That's just my opinion.

Any casino that states they will keep the deposit is rogue and you should post their name, especially if the terms still exists.

I agree, they took your deposit , they should of returned atleast the deposit. I remember when I accidently opened my 3 dice in GBP lol...Im in the USA. I was surprised when I not only got my money and winnings, but it was double what I thought.

I made an honest mistake and it seems you did the same since you werent sure which currency to use. What do you mean you dont have your own money? What do you call your money? It wasnt listed in currency options at MG? Im just curious, not grilling you :)

Hehe, I meant that since we, in Norway, don't use Euros, but Norwegian Krone, non of the foreign currencies is "mine". Therefor I am as likely to play in Euros, Pounds or Dollars. But according to the casino which confiscated my money and closed my account, I should have played in dollars.

The casino in mention was Grand Hotel Casino, the TC are stil visible here:

They clearly state it in their TC, but, when you play at a new casino, and you don't take up a bonus, do you really read all the TC? I mean, what hassel is it to them to atleast return the deposit??

What I don't understand, is why they don't put it into their system that you cannot register as currency, if you don't live in Britan. Shouldnt be that hard..., unless they want you to make that mistake, so that they can take your money...

As I said, this happened over a year ago, but I recently saw the name of this casino again on a list over MG casinos, and I came to think about the case I had with them. And I was wondering if the casino could rightfully do what they did.

Name them they are rogue.
It would be sneaky enough taking your winnings but taking your deposit is THEFT plain and simple.
As you say you did not take a bonus then there should of been no problem but even if you did it should of made no difference as Lojo so eloquently points out.
Sorry this happened to you but at least you can stop other people letting these crooks take their money.

Ahhh you just posted and named them, good.

- Please note that only users from United Kingdom and Northern Ireland will be able to open a British Pound account.
- Please note that only residents of the European Union will be able to open an account in Euros.

All accounts opened not according to our Account Currency Policy (i.e. Euro accounts opened from a non-EU country) will be locked: should you have made a deposit before the account is locked, the Casino cannot be held responsible for any action taken afterwards.

In order to become a GRAND HOTEL CASINO Real Player, players must register.

Players must provide GRAND HOTEL CASINO with true and correct details and notify us immediately of any changes that should occur.

Only one Real Account per household is allowed. If other accounts are opened, special promotions will not apply.

GRAND HOTEL CASINO reserves the right to close accounts at any time, especially when information is discovered to be incorrect or misleading or when there has been a history of fraudulent abuse.

The Casinos Management retains the right to terminate accounts, confiscate winnings and to discontinue or cancel all promotions at any time, for any reason whatsoever and without prior notice.

Players are solely responsible for keeping their account numbers and passwords secure and secret. Players are solely responsible for any purchases and/or losses that may occur on Player's account.
If these are the same terms as before, they erred in stealing your deposit.

:lolup::lolup::lolup::lolup::lolup::lolup::lolup:

Translates: We can not be held responsible for our thieving actions:p

It does not state anywhere that your deposit will be confiscated though.
Only a rogue Casino would do this without very strong evidence of fraud.

I agree, and it doesn't seem like the actions I've experienced with any of the group. This may be a misunderstanding and Gahll can just ask for the money back :)

Here's the casinos google history here

Well, thats what they did, I called them on the phone, support even said he talked to the manager, but there was nothing he could do. So my account remained closed, I asked if they could return my deposit, but support told me sorry, and babbeled something about "TC clearly states" bla bla bla.

Well, now it irritates me that I did'nt go any further with it back then. lol

If there was no funky stuff on your end, I'd ask for the money back. You have your account number? Right is right and fair is fair. No reason the casino wouldn't want to make nice and apologize.

lojo: I don't expekt my money back, im not even gonna complain, hell, it was over a year ago. I probably don't have my accountnumber either, as I uninstalled the casino right after this episode.

My point was that I came to remember this story, and I was wondering if this was a "legal" action from any casino. And, if I had pursuid the case back then, I could have had my deposit back or not. The deposit was "only" around 100, so I was angry, but it was not the end of the world, to put it that way.

Absolutely, if you are honest in what you say then you should ask them how they could justify taking your deposit and refer them to this thread.
If it is just a misunderstanding then they still have time to redeem themselves and nip a bad rep' in the bud

EDIT: Hehe you have done it again, why would you not want your money back?

Who cares if it was a Year ago why would you let them get away with it?

LOL You get me all riled up and give me the sent and then say you are not bothered grrrrrrr WOOF!

Ok, thanx for the advice. As I stated in my first post, my intention was not to flame the casino or the group in any way, thats why I didn't post the casinoname before you asked me. I had and have considered the money lost, but it was mere a question if it was an acceptable procedure from any casino to do this.

As I said, it was over a year ago, and I don't expekt anything back from the casino, as there has been so much time in between.

Unfortunatley, I no longer have my accountnumber with them, but I wil send them an email and tell them about the case.

Edit.

Ofcourse I would want my money back! Hehe, it is not that. I just live by Nietzsches saying, "all great minds are skeptical". IE. I don't expekt anything. I called them back then, tried to get my money back, told the support guy just what I thought of him, and laid the case behind me. But as I said, I wil send them an email, hope they have my accountnumber and tell them the case. And hope it works out. :)

I'm sorry Gaahl, that just plain sucks. I actually had these casinos listed as "approved" on my web site! - Not any more though, I just now switched them to "not recommended" after reading this thread.

While they technically had the right to do what they did based solely on the fact that it was in the T&C's, it doesn't make it right that they have that rule in their T&C's in the first place and I can't condone or promote any casino that would commit such blatantly obvious theft.

I agree with Lojo - whatever the hell currency someone deposits and plays with should be fine (especially considering that they accepted it in the first place!).

The simple truth is that if they didn't want non-Brits to deposit in GBP, it only takes ONE line of programming code to disallow it! I don't understand why they insist on making it more difficult for EVERYONE by not implementing the restriction programmatically.

SlotsWizard:

I clearly agree with you about the terms and conditions. If they don't want non british pound deposits, it is just to program it. I guess this isn't that big of a case for most countries tho. Most European countries use Euros, USA uses dollars, britan pounds etc. But for me, all those are foreign currencies, and I just tend to use pounds.

It looks like they may have set this up so that they have an excuse to take money from people who do the same mistake as I did. I mean, it basicly says in the T&C that they wil take your money if you deposit in pounds when you are not from Britain. What else does this mean? hehe

should you have made a deposit before the account is locked, the Casino cannot be held responsible for any action taken afterwards.
