This matter of perception troubles me on occasion. Contrary to what he says in his follow up post, RedAndi's post #11 in this thread still appears to me to suggest:
1) That there is a gang mentality here (something that is at times alleged - usually when several members happen to express a contrary view to several other members) I've already commented on what I see as the fallacy of that perception, and its provocative and untrue insinuation that members prefer to act collectively instead of as free-thinking, adult individuals.
OK Jet, you don't see it. Sometimes I do. Again, 2 people, different perception. And stop insinuating that I was insinuating
2) I also perceived that post as a small but unfair sleight on the moderators, suggesting that they "sided" with certain members on some issues. Again it is a perception I do not believe to be justified.
Could not have said more clearly I think the mods are fair (at least I thought so).
3) Finally, as I saw it, his post speculated that our host here had arbitrarily closed a thread because one member had posted that it was time to close it. Again, I find myself regarding such an implication as both false and perhaps even mildly insulting to the independence and tolerance of the owner here.
Again I thought I was pretty clear. I said it LOOKED bad, and it was probably just the timing. Can I really be the only one who thought this?
Someone said "this thread should be closed now" and it was very soon after.
Thanks be Bryan doesn't see insults as easily as you do. I like your style Jet but I think you are digging too deep for insight on my post.
About the only thing that RedAndi and I agree on in his post #11 is the favourable impact of a constant flow of new members here.
Yup
I believe members should not only respect each other and the right to agree or disagree with another view without the rather juvenile accusation of being part of a mindless gang, but pause to think before throwing around potentially offensive statements regarding the forum itself.
In too many cases recently it appears to me that these are based on ill-considered personal misperceptions, or have been deliberately shaped to introduce a negative vibe.
I see what I see, I do no "shaping", I am not trying to be negative, just honest and forthright.
Oh and if you were alluding to me, I am far from juvenille (hopefully you did not mean me, since I did not throw around any potential offensive statements you probably did not).
I have to say that under these circumstances I was surprised that several members actually 'thanked' post #11....or was that also 'gang' activity????
Do you think if people are counting the thanks and noting the thankers that maybe there are issues? Is it a competition?
If someone you don't know thanks someone you don't like do you decide you don't like the thanker?
Should it even matter?
I can honestly say I don't even notice the "thank" section more times than not!
Maybe the thanks should be anonymous.
UGH.
Once again almost regret posting what I really think, too much over analyzing of the words spoken.
BTW Jet...I am not a he, I am a she
