Amaya Moves Into Romanian Market

Pokerstars and Betstars make software changes in order to comply with local regulatory requirements

The Amaya online gambling group has joined the rush into the new Romanian regulated online gambling market, announcing that subsidiaries Pokerstars and Betstars have secured licensing after introducing software changes to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements.
The licensing becomes effective from September 1 this year, enabling PokerStars.ro, BetStars.ro and Full Tilt to ditch temporary licensing they have been using to date in the Eastern European country.
In a press statement announcing the licensing achievement, Amaya communications chief Eric Hollreiser said:
"This demonstrates Amaya's commitment to the responsible growth of online gaming by supporting local regulation that is good for players, good for operators, and provides revenue for regulators."
To comply with local regulatory requirements, PokerStars and BetStars will implement the following changes:
* Responsible Gaming controls will be expanded with new limits;
* Amaya will work only with partners and suppliers who are licensed in Romania and hold a Class 2 license;
* Full Tilt will no longer be available in Romania, with players migrating to the PokerStars.ro brand;
* Amaya must authenticate all Romanian player accounts.
Romanian poker players will continue to be able to participate in PokerStars' global shared liquidity player pool, and players who are not resident in Romania will continue to be able to play on PokerStars and BetStars using their 'home' software and regulatory jurisdiction while they are temporarily visiting Romania.
Romanian residents with PokerStars.ro and BetStars.ro accounts who are temporarily travelling outside Romania will continue to be able to use their accounts from abroad, subject to any applicable local regulations.

Brian Cullingworth

Infopowa news was a staple of Casinomeister’s news from 2000 until 2019. Brian Cullingworth was the main writer, contributor, and was one of the most knowledgeable persons I have ever known involved in the online casino industry.

We first met in January 2001 at the ICE in London where I observed him going booth to booth interviewing online casino, software, and licensing jurisdiction representatives. Brian was also heavily involved with our forum as “Jetset“, he was involved as an informal consultant to eCOGRA, the OPA, and was a player advocate who assisted countless aggrieved players with his connections to industry folks. He also published “Casino Cautions” via Infopowa news for quite a number of years. These can be found in our news archives.

His passing in February 2019 was a dark day for us. He will be forever missed.
