I'm curious because it seems like that it must be hard to find a job in this industry. Did you previously know the casino owner or someone that was working there? Was the job publicly offered? Or did you just happen to be at the right place at the right time?

All stories are welcomed.

Hi Balthazar,

I applied for a job as a telephone betting operator back in 2002, taking bets from people over the telephone. My friend worked for the company and let me know they were taking on new starters - but it was also advertised publically.

It was meant to be a temporary job until I found something more permanent. I had limited knowledge about betting but soon picked it up. I then went on a long journey applying for jobs internally - from customer services to publishing the odds on-site, I pretty much worked in every department before settling in marketing around 6-7 years ago.

In 2007 the company I worked for was purchased by 32Red and I relocated to Gibraltar. My focus eventually went from sports betting to casino and I've never looked back since. 32Red is a great company to work for as you would expect - and the location makes it even better!

I think a lot of reps will have a similiar route to me, e.g. start at the bottom and work your way up. Having experience in the different departments certainly does help. In Gibraltar there are always jobs available to get you into the industry.

Hope that helps and I didn't bore you too much lol.

I used to "work" in music and media and so naturally I wanted a job where very little actual working was involved.
Someone in my team at the time had previously worked in igaming and really resented the 4 hour days I was putting her through - she recommended it to me (she is now back in it).
I booked a holiday in Malta, got in touch with Betsson, and somehow blagged a job with them while I was over.

I only speak English (with a Merseyside accent which really makes it difficult for people) so if you're the same as me it's much more difficult to get in.
If you speak a few languages fluently then it's a snip to get into this business (if you come in on the ground floor), I'd say a lot easier than most.

Well ok i will share my short story. Back in 2005 I used to work in a ''shitty'' mobile company. One day i have phone call from my cousin and this phone call changed my life completely. So my cousin was in some relationship with a guy who was one of the owners of german sports-betting company. She told me - there is a chance that you can get a job there as a trader but you have to come to Malta and pass some tests which might take a week or so. So i took a loan(yes loan for a flight ticket) and fly for a first time in my life. After week of those test i was sure that i will have to comeback to home with empty pockets but well. In 2006 i was running all their LiveBets on WorldCup in Germany:- )

Did any of us 'plan' for this career? :)

Good question/thread!

For me, it's always been a case of 'right place, right time'. Here's my story... cue wavy lines....

Many years ago I realised that I was never going to go far with just my diploma in special effects, so went back to college to study marketing and PR. I needed part time work to see me through, and applied to a bunch of different call centres. It finally came down to a choice between 'Google' and 'Sportsbook.com'. I knew literally NOTHING about online gaming and my sports knowledge was about as good as my grasp on quantum mechanics, but I liked the hours better and the people seemed fun so sportsbook it was. Best decision I ever made.

For my final year of college we were asked to put together a fake marketing/PR plan for any company we choose, and considering the resources at my disposal I chose to do it for SB.com, with the assistance of the then Marketing manager Alex to whom I'm still very grateful. Long story slightly shorter... I gave Alex a copy of it when it was completed to thank him for his advice, and a few weeks later found myself flying down to Costa Rica to manage the brand and put my plan into operation. :eek2::D I've not looked back since.

How I got my second job in the industry, at the original Buzzluck.com, is a much better story, but this is a 'first job' thread so I'll save that for now :)

OK you scouser tell the manager to get someone to partner Suarez up front. Sooner or later, teams will get to grips with his techniques(including diving lol) and you will find it difficult to register a single win.

Hello Reps! Have you missed this thread?

I really like to hear more stories about how you got into this business.
See it as a way to show us that you're just, at least almost, human:p
