Did any of us 'plan' for this career?
Good question/thread!
For me, it's always been a case of 'right place, right time'. Here's my story... cue wavy lines....
Many years ago I realised that I was never going to go far with just my diploma in special effects, so went back to college to study marketing and PR. I needed part time work to see me through, and applied to a bunch of different call centres. It finally came down to a choice between 'Google' and 'Sportsbook.com'. I knew literally NOTHING about online gaming and my sports knowledge was about as good as my grasp on quantum mechanics, but I liked the hours better and the people seemed fun so sportsbook it was. Best decision I ever made.
For my final year of college we were asked to put together a fake marketing/PR plan for any company we choose, and considering the resources at my disposal I chose to do it for SB.com, with the assistance of the then Marketing manager Alex to whom I'm still very grateful. Long story slightly shorter... I gave Alex a copy of it when it was completed to thank him for his advice, and a few weeks later found myself flying down to Costa Rica to manage the brand and put my plan into operation.

I've not looked back since.
How I got my
second job in the industry, at the original Buzzluck.com, is a much better story, but this is a 'first job' thread so I'll save that for now
