Anyone been following the case of Julian Assange? I don't profess to know much, but had this on in the background - a long watch but interesting stuff.

I heard the new Australian prime minister speak about it in their parliament, he didn't exactly take sides but said it needs to be brought to a close. The person who leaked the files, manning? is out a free man, clearly Assange has paid a significant price mentally and health wise, so what more punishment do they crave for him.

Turkey hit with 7.8 RS earthquake in the early hours of Monday, crushing people in their sleep, burying many others alive, displacing thousands, and causing untold destruction in its wake.

The aftershock not being any less severe, as a second 7.5 quake hits near midday.

The stuff of nightmares, as these are protracted, shocking ways to suffer, as many will simply be unable to be found, not to mention the suffering wrought on animals too lest we forget. An outright tragedy

I saw a similar one about rule 34 making its way around the internet back when Trump was president.
Something about him changing rule 34 regarding something in the courts i think, dont really remember what the pic said.
'Just search for Trump rule 34 to see what its about'

For anyone unfamiliar with 'rule 34'

What kind of sentence will they get in Canada for that?

I think in the UK, they will receive a sentence of around 14 years max. We get lots of cars stolen to order in the UK. Sentences for theft are just not enough, think the maximum is 7 years, but 14 for handling I believe.

Had a quick look, and google says up to 10 years for theft. Couldn't find the other charges but only a quick look.

In the UK, you get time off for good behaviour, and prisons are full also, which means lighter sentencing on the whole. I think several years is enough of a deterrent, but when they only serve four, I wonder about the risk vs reward.

We have kids on scooters stealing mobile phones who make hundreds, sometimes thousands, in a few days. Probably serve two years as a first offence criminal if 18, at worst, which is not enough of a deterrent. Not 100% certain, but I think many get let off because of their age. The Police are stretched and can't follow up on everything also nowadays, so petty crime pays for many.

Ya, last couple weeks in our neighbourhood, been a fair few (attempted) car thefts and break-ins; probably wasnt more than 2 hrs ago someone robbed a car locally (and seen several this week).
