Former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne dead at 31 after apparent balcony suicide tragedy.

Say what you will, but I'm pretty sure '1D' were among the biggest, if not the biggest pop acts in the world at one stage, and you couldn't swing a cat for hearing one of their songs blaring out somewhere, as they engineered pop dominion.

Somewhat saddening ultimately, having watched their rise from TV pop oiks to superstardom, and their inevitable impact on pop culture in that time.

Yet here we are, a life gone all too soon, R.I.P

Is it already time for jokes and memes or too early? asking for a friend.

Bit too early for joking about someone dying mate.

Is the friend your talking about called Tosser by any chance?
No :) But internet is fast man, I already see memes appearing on twitter which I found too early given the circumstances.

I have heard of them in terms of another manufactured plastic pop band, but couldn't name one of their members or songs until today.

31 is terrible, why on earth did this happen?
All I have heard is that he fell or threw himself of a balcony. The part im not sure about is if it was an accident or suicide.

But yeah they were a terrible pop band. Don't know any of there names either. Such a young age to lose there life's though regardless.

There are questions being asked about his connection to puff daddy and the fact that he did not choose to jump from the very top of the building because a 3rd floor jump can be considered as survivable.

In the mean time here is his ex

Yeah, I am awful

This video is a good watch and gives you a better understanding of what went on.

Seems it was suicide from the evidence shown.

Such a sad screwed up world we live in now....

True Geordie has had his struggles with mental health and has lost a close friend in the same way. Liam must have really suffered before he did that :(

I was only vaguely aware of one direction from x factor and tabloid updates, but in a way I wasn't totally surprised re this sad news.

Not Déjà vu or a premonition, but some seemed destined not to make old bones, fame has been a poisoned chalice, their extreme good looks or talent has opened doors but they were never cut out to cope with the showbiz world, with its insincerity and constant demands from being in the limelight.

You'd think, in a way, that the police would keep a close eye on the stars/showbiz world, but seems unlike the times when the stones were busted for mere cannabis that they just let them (and their dealers) get on with it now.

And the media encourages the young to follow the fame at any cost goal to the young. I see newspapers daily showing glam pictures of pretty women dating footballers/pop starts and actors as if that is the hights that they should aim for.

Yes it's very influencing, leading them astray. I'm sure the media would say it's just a bit of harmless fun, tittle-tattle.

Slightly different aspect, but look at Katie Price, she's helped sell their papers for yonks with trashy tales, and they're laughing at her now really, with her surgically rendered mask face (and freshly inflated boobs) in an attempt to stay young and keep the money flowing in.

They love a riches to rags tale.

I agree with you completely

'1D' occupied their niche in music and held this position and it's a pity that this happened with Liam, R.I.P
