FREE SPINS - Guidelines

Do you know how totally condescending you have become to members?

I’m pretty sure that most members can be credited with a brain cell or two. We totally understand And respect Bryan’s house rules. We appreciate the time and effort Dionysus has put into it. If Bryan hadn’t been so busy with awards I would have suggested my little Dinosaur to oversee as he has grace and good manners.

Do they run courses in online tact and diplomacy?

I have to say I agree with you Supa! It had to be said as I find Dunover incredibly argumentative and dismissive ....and I thought it was just me :eek2:

You got there before me!

Couple of ways I think would be good to get round the problems. any of them should work, and the first could be done straight away

1. Disallow link posting in that forum except by mods. Lets be honest, a free spin thread with 99.9% of offers for existing customers isn't going to create many sign ups, for sign up offers, mods can post them, or mods/casino reps even, and the odd deal by a member could have an affiliate link added by a mod.

2. Create a script adding a 'review' button next to the 'post reply' button or somewhere, click it brings an alphabetical list of casinos, click the casino it auto adds a link to the review.

3. Create a script, a bit like skimlinks, where words are automatically changed to links. I've seen this on quite a few vbulletin forums, so presumably theres something out there to do it and presumably there will be one for xenforo. That could be used sitewide too (please make it in a new window though!). So for example, if someone writes Videoslots in a post, as soon as its posted, it leaves the text 'Videoslots' the same, so as not to interrupt reading, but adds a link to the word (changing it to blue) directing anyone who clicks it to the review. As long as it doesn't do that annoying pop up shit that skimlinks does, it is seamless.

I popped on to add to the suggestions a while ago but felt I best not make any suggestions for fear of being accused of ‘not getting it’...

Lots of the offers posted are weekly etc like the sun Leo Vegas ones.
Others are daily like the Trada daily promos.
Not being web savvy I was going to ask how hard it would be to create a calendar type section wheee the weekly ones could be added but also accredited reps could update as promo campaigns are released.

d. Anyone been around a while KNOWS CM was NEVER the place to go for freebies - this is pretty much a new thing.

I am fairly new here -6 months or so , but I do recall an incedent on VS ofering a trip to Malta - that was won by somebody with a 10 posts on the forum on something ?
but as said, me and you have diffrent opinions on things .
thanks a lot for helping out with the Forum and all but I am joining my friends ^^^ Supa :p

Ah....somebody gets it - that pretty much sums up Bryan's reasoning for closing it.

@danofthewibble Yes, I suggested that too, then a pre-moderated thread, but it's a lot of aggro and we should rely on the integrity of the members with the principle all open threads are available to all members equally, except very new ones who are pre-moderated for a short time anyway.

If people cannot do the red colour on mobile, simply post and report the post quickly with 'needs red' or something. It's easy enough for us to edit on your behalf until a script or dev solution is created.

Remember, it's OK wanting a free-for-all thread but please try and remember why it was pulled - because posters were breaking the rules or abusing it too often, to the detriment of the forum. As a result people have had to spend their time on a voluntary basis trying to come up with a compromise solution to keep the advocates of the freebies thread happy and ensure the house rules can be applied simultaneously.

I don't understand in the slightest why there needs to be colouring of the WHO, WHAT, WHERE.

Is everyone on the forum to be presumed blind?

Will they not already be able to identify a freespin offer post by the underlined and blue highlighted link to said casino?

I seriously don't get it.

I also don't get why the last thread was pulled. I don't remember any seasoned members ever posting spam or any affiliate links what so ever to the thread. I also don't recall a single time where a newbie's signed up and visitied the thread just to post thier spammy shit. So I don't get calling it a "Spammy, free for all" which it quite obviously wasn't.

On one or two occasions I have seen links from members (Posted inadvertently and not for deliberate spam purposes) and they were edited quickly.

The last time was SlotGrinder posting the direct link for Playgrand casino in a moment of lapsed thought processing and that was enough to kill the thread.

So I can only imagine that Staff want a freespin thread where linking to Casinomeisters affiliate links is mandatory; which I admittedly see no problem with. Bryan's house, Bryan rules.

But seriously relax on the Red Highlighting. We can read

Given what we posters are left with and judging by the condescending and patronising manor displayed by admin in this thread I can see Casinomeister losing very many peoples will to post freebies which will result in a huge decrease in traffic to the site.
Result = No one wins

Will it though? I have to be honest, I don't see freespins threads as a huge draw on traffic for Casinomeister.

While we all enjoy them and pop in to see if anything worthwhile has managed to surface, I think CM would survive without one.

From Bryans perspective, no one was posting the affiliate links of Casinomeister to the previous thread anyway which didn't bring any revenue to the site.

Let's say Casinomesiter gets 50 new signups a month and they all visit the freespin thread. It's surely likely that a lot of them haven't signed up to most of the casino's, and by not posting the official CM link, CM is missing out on that potential revenue (I'm being speculative here).

So I don't think there would be any real loss of meaningful traffic to the site if all they came for was a frespin thread. :)

one reason the red bolded font was discussed to assuage the people that b*tched about the banter, so they could scroll on by the chit-chat to the goodies and still allow members to chat and discuss
and yes, the casino text would be in blue, assuming peeps put in the link, and as foreseen, and shown in this thread, the biggest kvetch would be entering the link (no link, no blue text).

Seriously, it's not as easy as you'd think or hope, to make everyone happy. No decision was arbitrary.

Fair do's, that explains it. Always people moaning about something on CM. It's become a bitch fest lately

I think if people are so against strolling through people having a banter about freespins on a FREESPIN THREAD, then perhaps said people should just not visit the thread instead of causing more hassle for the people who post offers.

Because now those idiots who complained about strolling through some banter to find offers are going to find that there are less offers going into the thread as some members can do without the hassle of highliting some text and finding and posintg the official affiliate links of CM.

My heads spinning from the madness of it all

Seriously. Number 1 is the nail on the head if it was soley about the thread being a "Spamming free for all". Just disable linking to the thread.

Number 3 is a good alternative for people not wanting to find Casinomeister links on thier own, post them and link them.

All good, well thought out suggestions Colin

So the guidelines are;only post spin on accredited casinos approved by casinomeister and just free spin offers not linked to deposit bonuses on those casinos? Is that a fair summary?
Nope not really. Please read my comments below.

I am pretty surprised at the amount of grief being dished out in this thread. C'mon, think about what you're arguing about and put things into perspective. Don't get all wound up over free offers and how they are posted here by the public.

The reason I want members to post the links to the reviews here is so that members can READ the reviews and CHOOSE if they want to play there. This is the way I provide information on the site. If the information is WRONG, than please post what is wrong in the forum that deals with corrections to reviews:
Casino Reviews Updates

I am looking at this with the eyes of a newbie and it is important for newbies to read proper reviews on casinos so that they can make a choice on where to sign up (Accred, GZ or Rogue).

Finding reviews is simple. First you click the "Home" tab which brings you to the main Casinomeister website. At the moment you are only looking at the forum. here is that tab:

home.PNG

Click that and you will come to the main home page. At the top of that you will see a magnifying glass which indicates "search". Type in a search term, for instance "Casino Club" and the first result should be the review page:

search.PNG

That is how you find reviews. I hope that it is not time consuming and turns out to be an easy process.

We have a very small staff at Casinomeister - smaller than most portals out there - in fact the smallest as far as I know. So we rely on our membership to help out a bit - one reason why we have the Meister Minions. The pay off is to have an awesome forum - so if you think that our traffic is going to plummet because we aren't allowing people to go ape shit with posting links in the forum - well I guess that's the price we've got to pay.

I honestly can't wrap my head around why some of you are resisting this plan. All I am trying to do is to keep these threads organized with helpful information. And all I am suggesting is that the freebie offers be connected to a review on the site - just so it is not Rogue.

Now if we are missing reviews - we need to know. That is LadyJelena's department. Post what we are lacking in the forum I mentioned above. If you thing the review is shite and needs a serious re-write, then by all means send me, Pere, LadyJelena text to consider inclusion - or offer yourself up for a content writer. :p

Like I said, I am not trying to stifle flowing conversation about freebies - I am just trying to keep this organized and fair. This should not be a big deal.

That's pretty much true from a practical perspective.

The whole ethos behind formatting a new monthly FS/NDB thread is in response to the membership requests, who didn't like the old ones being pulled - which was for several good reasons, unwieldy, hard to manage and requiring excessive moderation on occasion. The monthly refresh will also ensure the majority of offers are still live when you read them, something that had no boundary on the old and gigantic thread.

The RED font was simply an easy way (in response to previous comments on the old thread(s) to highlight offers to help users skim fast and stop where they want to read. It's perfectly logical, although as people are pointing out may be a little inconvenient. The logic is simple enough; imagine I gave you a 400-page book and asked you to flip through the pages and find a sentence on page 198 and had highlighted it with a marker - it would take seconds compared to my not having done so.

The second bone of contention seems to be the linking - now as I stated a short while back, this whole thing is a work in progress and is subject to improvement, probably via a script or tools to assist the poster. A few people are working hard behind the scenes to make this work and have listened as I already pointed out.

A likely solution to the first would be a scripted template. For now, as Chipkin has pointed out here, it's not the be-all and end-all if somebody doesn't use red for reasons of a mobile device. The offer would still be posted, and it's simple enough for myself or another mod to retrospectively highlight it.

There is an idea in place too which will auto-link the casino name, to save you digging it out yourselves. It would work in a similar fashion to when you alert a another member with an ampersand, i.e. @Casinomeister .

As for tetchy tone you say I have used on occasion - remember there are a few of us working here to try and reinstate a thread you guys have requested and we are seeing equally tetchy comments, which thus far have included the words 'retarded, idiotic and stupid'. I know a few people who would have given it up at that point and binned it.

We realize many would have like the old free for all thread, but the decision has been take to lose it. I'm sure an acceptable compromise will result, the sooner the better!

EDIT - when I posted this I hadn't seen Bryans reply immediately above.

Would it not be easier to use the plugin I posted above? Use it sitewide and newbies will find reviews much easier, surely that would increase traffic, not just from the free spins thread?
What happened to the SkyVegas review? Was it lost in the site upgrade or something, surely you haven't removed it as you no longer get paid for new customers, as was suggested

You may well be aware that I highlighted the possibility a month or so ago that I questioned the notion that the free spins thread as it stood could possibly be impacting negatively on the integrity of Casinomeister for various reasons so I can not be stood accused of having a blinkered attitude towards your decision to close the last one and create this review thread.

I am also aware of the impact traffic has on internet sites so I respect totally why you are wishing to spend some time getting things right.
I agree that the best way to approach web design is through the eyes of a newbie because if you get that right then a successful forum and business has more chance of achieving or maintaining a success. There is probably well over a billion websites and not all of them can thrive.

I guess that one strategy of success is setting the tone for a site and content is key to that-So is it worth maintaining a free spins thread on that basis?

Visitors determine the success of a website. Design is made for people so it is good to listen. What do those people need and what are their browser habits while visiting the site, either as a contributor or a none signing in lurker?
What may be the users technical competence? Not all visitors and members are competent and I suspect that making things too convoluted is not user friendly.
What is the goal of most of this sites visitors? I would suggest that,no matter how much the traffic on all of the other threads may be, the most visited threads by far are those which offer freebies and deals and most of that traffic could only be seen via none posting traffic statistics. A journey map of your average visitor may well confirm that.
So purely from a business point of view I would suggest that a free spins thread is an integral part of Casinomeister even though it does not define what Casinomeister is.
But I will maintain that there is nothing more off putting for a member than being treat as if we are idiots by someone charged with policing us and we all know that bad policing creates distrust

That's a fair response. For the record I am on board with having a new Freespins thread that detracts and discourages future would be spammers and making posts more easily to locate by having the text highlighted. The text highlighting I find slightly unnecessary, but I'm not opposed to it at all and will follow the rule on it.

As for the tetchy comment, I don't think I've thrown any remarks or adjectives your way to describe you as such mate, perhaps that was for someone else?

That or I have a severe head injury

Yeah, sorry I should have specified that was in general reference and not anything your post quoted contained.

I also know Netbet is rogued here and was in that thread a lot. If you think they are great then maybe ask Bryan to let them out from the pit. It is possible if it's not a really bad one.
I know Netbet is rogued here I've been playing with them for a few months now and have never had any issues whatsoever ..
Withdrawals always processed in a few hours instant live chat until 23:59 daily which is more than I can say for some of the accredited casinos.
