Well, now the Germans will know how the Algerians felt in '82, after they and Austria took part in one of the biggest stitchups in WC history.

Bottom line, they should have buried Japan in the first game. They didn't and their fate was out of their hands.

It is quite convenient for a number of reasons, a major rival in Germany being eliminated being the first of them.

Instead of a last 16 match with Croatia and a likely QF against Brazil, they now have a last 16 game against Morocco and a likely QF against Portugal.
With a SF likely to be against England or France.

So losing just enabled them to dodge the South American big guns until the final. If they get there.
