Normally, I'd be delighted to be drawn to follow Brazil for the WC. It hardly gets more powerhouse than that, but this time around, I feel more or less chanceless - of all their golden generations, this Brazil is at best bronze. Portugal would be my choice, or maybe Norway (biased). @zellie with France, and @lockinlove with Spain are definitely in the best spot for now, but @onelastspintowinbig hasn't been too unlucky with his allocated choice either, the Germans are always in with a chance and I have in fact personally bet on Havertz for top goal scorer, hoping he'll seal the deal already in the first match against Curacao.

Good luck to all and thanks to CM and @Webzcas for coming up with this to make the WC even more interesting to follow! 🤗

I echo the good luck to all. As for coming up with this comp, a few suggestions were sent my way ( thank you! ) and it became what it is with a bit of tweaking on my part.

I am just genuinely pleased that the response so far to it has been very positive. It is after all you forum members that make it what it is.

Also a big thanks to the peeps at Gentoo, for not only putting up the prize pool month after month, but also allowing us to have autonomy when it comes to coming up with competition ideas.

I think Germany could be getting overlooked too.

Not much has been said about them in the build-up. It's all been about Spain and France.

England could go well if they ignore the media hype and pressure.

There could be a few upsets along the way with unfancied teams going further than expected as so many go through to the knockouts.

The teams I got, Argentina are 11/1 and Panama 2000/1.

I can see Argentina doing well, winning it back to back will be tough.

Panama are ranked 34th in the world so they could get through to the knockouts with so many going through. Had to look it up and I'm surprised they are so high.

Panama 34th? I would never have thought! Then again, the ranking system works in mysterious ways. I remember back in the day, '98 or so, Norway was actually ranked #1 and let's be straight, we never were the world's #1 😅 (Maybe after this one, though!)

England? I don't know., They're too vulnerable at the back. Leaving out Maguire and his experience was a huge mistake, no doubt. Maybe under Southgate they could have dulled their way to a trophy, but again, only with experience. This Tuchel side looks real promising, especially the strike force, but lacks the required authority in the back line. M'bappe and the likes will have a field day against them.

Morocco looks awesome and have proven themselves time and again. It's worth to look at the different odds on offer for their continued progression.

Switzerland too. They're solid through and through, Could well make it to the semis.

Norway? We've never been more optimistic. And for every reason. Definitely in with a shout, but have gotten a real tough group to make it out of alive. We should have similar chances to the Swiss but lack the tournament experience they have.

Netherlands? Probably one of their worst generations but that heritage is something special to live up too. Still, they can always be expected to be in with a chance.

Curacao, Kapp Verde, Haiti... What are all these teams? Why are they in the WC? 😅

I think a problem for countries with a lot of Premier League players will be fatigue.

The intensity of the Premier League is ridiculous with the high press so many teams use. Sometimes it's like watching school playground football but with highly trained professional athletes!

Now they will be playing at the end of the season in the hot weather as well, which doesn't really happen in England unless it's a hot August/September when the league starts.
