Since I decided to TRY to give my liver a rest for a month, I found out that nearly everyone I know is also giving up booze for January! :eek2:

What about the members here - anyone else jumping on the wagon with me?

I use to love my rye and tequila, but havent touched anything in a couple of years. 5 to be exact. I was only an every other weekender to begin with, but cheers on giving Larry the liver a break!

Well, until my ONE bottle of Yankee pisswater (Budscheisse) on Christmas Day the last alcohol I drank was when I was with YOU outside that café-bar in Amsterdam on that last Friday we were there in July. Seriously.
So I already had a dry August, September, October, November lol..

Can Guarantee it will be a dry January for me.

Used to drink just about every day years ago . Enjoyed it at the time but these days i rarely drink just can't be arsed with it. Only drank twice in last two years both times were when away in Belfast and no doubt will not have a drink till i am there this year.

Just got to stage where i really can't be arsed with drink and the way i feel day after.

Spot a trend here lol. Has there ever been so many non-drinkers in a forum (other that AA?)

After growing up with a father who drank way too much, and seeing how the same addiction got hold of my much older brother, as an adult I decided that it wasn’t worth it and decided not to drink.
I may occasionally swig a mouthful of the hubby’s pear cider (as it’s great for quenching a thirst) but I too would say I’m a non drinker.

Sadly, it has meant that the addiction gene has manifested itself in different ways (slots etc) but at least I am aware and claim to be mostly in control.

...Enjoyed it at the time but these days i rarely drink just can't be arsed with it. Just got to stage where i really can't be arsed with drink and the way i feel day after.

Exactly how I feel these days. I have never been a big drinker - teetotal until I was 25, when I lived in Germany and discovered white wine, particularly their ausleses and spatleses, then moved up the ladder to Gerwurtztraminers, then onto French whites, and Spanish and Australian reds.

However, even then I was never a big drinker, until my marriage broke up, and I don't think I was sober for about 18 months. Not drunk, but not sober either.

After one too many 'morning after the night before', I finally woke up to the reality of what alcohol was doing to me, and just stopped.

I now limit myself to a bottle of Muscat at Xmas with the Xmas cake, and perhaps 2-3 bottles of wine during the year.

I found it very easy to stop, so I don't think I have the alcohol gene to worry about, but many friends are still struggling to cut down many years later, so it can be a difficult action to take.

So good luck KasinoKing, and to all those others who are aiming for a dry January.

PS: I may not have the alcohol gene, but I sure as hell have the gambling gene.

I am lucky in the respect I can take or leave alcohol. It really doesn’t bother me. A pint of dry cider on a really hot day and that’s about it for me. It’s a good job really because I have pretty much every other vice going. Thank the Lord for small mercies! Oh that reminds me of the other thing I need to have a word with him about:p.

I must admit I was more than a little surprised that everyone who has answered so far is tea-total, or pretty close to it
Or maybe it's just that the other alkys aren't posting because they don't want to admit it in public! :p

I am one of those strange people who has never drank and never will, could not imagine the consequences of gambling when pissed
OMG it's not nice I can tell you!
I have lost count of the mornings I've woken up after boozing & playing until 2am+ and literally not had a CLUE what my casino balance was when I went to bed
Almost scared to log-in and look... Thankfully most times it's not been too disastrous - though there have been a few 0 balances :(

I'll be joining you!
Feel like I owe my body an apology after what I have made it go through since December 1st on a food and drink level. What ever the World Record is for consuming buffet food I think I may have broken it!
I'm actually looking forward to eating fruit and vegetables and living off tonic water for the next few weeks! :D
I'll raise a glass of kale, strawberry and kiwi smoothie to all taking part!

Another one that doesn't drink but my dry January will be with the slots, lost too many deposits recently, it's time for a break again :)

Well, I tried. But that didn't work, had a class of wine yesterday.

Seriously though, I used to drink quite regularly in my 20's but then decided to take a break after a long bender. Didn't have a drop for 36 months. After that my drinking has been basicly limited to occasional class of wine or beer with food. Mostly.

I was a party girl when I was younger. Always out on something drinking and having a lot of fun.
Then I stopped going out and suddenly realized I had stopped drinking too. It can be years between. In the last ten years only when traveling and a rare bottle of Bailey's when I got a huge win.

I could really use some more time out, traveling and drinking. It's way too little of that in my life :p

ps. I still have 5 bottles of wine left from the hampers I got from Guts several years ago. The other 7 I've given away as presents:eek2:

January was as dry as a the front row of a boy band concert so far - had half a bottle of maple Jack left from New Year's so had a few drinks and a late night binge-watching on the sofa last night. But I imagine ill still keep out of the pub for the month as the bank acct has this nasty little negative sign on it at the mo'.

I drink 2-3 times a week but also go to the gym most days so it kind of cancels it all out. Kind of.

It seems I may have had more than a glass of wine. Or I'm currently under the influence.

So yes, no dry January here.

Most new year resolutions last until January 12th most studies find. Which seems about right considering I will be hung over for the next 12 days after new years eve drinkfest.

I can tell you all something booze hits you alot different in your mid 30's than it did when I was in my early 20's. I used to be hungover for about 8 hours the next day and start drinking in the evening if those were the plans now I need many days to recover
