Busted ribs?

Been pretty much out of commission for a month. Bed.....sofa, even coughed up blood for a week (scary as ef).
Yeah, been to the hospital and clinic...morphine and antibiotics.
But man.......4 and a half weeks. I know it can take 6 weeks or more.
Anyone taken a month or 2?

I had a rather unfortunate incident many years ago while working as a holiday rep - long story short, a large guest landed on top of me while going down a water slide in a rubber ring… broke a rib and was absolute agony for about 2 months. I know it feels like it is never going to get better but it will heal on its own in time. Just take it easy and keep taking your pain meds x

Yeah - similar to the above: at least 15 years ago I fell flat on my face while trying to ice-skate and broke the bottom two ribs on my right side.
Was in absolute agony for AGES, but I can't remember exactly how long...

Hope you recover ASAP!

It turned out I broke one of my ribs on a Tuesday afternoon this July. I fell off from a stand during home renovation, and my chest hit a kitchen cabinet handle, but it did not really hurt for a few days. Actually I was not even aware what really happened for a few days. Then Sunday afternoon that week it started to really hurt, especially when sitting or laying down. Walking and standing was more or less OK, I could even mow the lawn that evening. But the next few nights from then were terrible. Monday morning went to doctor, x-ray, one rib is broken. I remember these milestones:
First real pain T+5 days. Any turning movement in bed really difficult during night until T+14 days. Significant pain when waking up in the morning until about 4 weeks. Occasional pain started to improve significantly between weeks 4-6, I started to forget about it completely sometimes. Weeks 6-8 roughly no change, pain for some movements. At 8 weeks I started to worry it is something else, as I still felt pain here and then. Then it was just gone once, don't remember exactly when.

So all-in-all broken ribs is a strange thing, not like an arm or something, but it heels, hope you feel better soon.

Oh dear...I am guessing you have a Xan-related fracture?

Best wishes and hope you recover sooner, rather than later.

Fun times.
Busted ribs turned into a lung infection turned into pneumonia, ugh.
At least it's nice, clear phlegm....just....buckets of it lol
There's worse, but would be swell to sleep for oh...an entire night :p

I know, I know, worse things. But maaaaaan, tired of being...well, tired. :p

Cracked a rib -- not a full break -- falling out of a tree when I was 15. THAT took well into a month to heal so I can well imagine that a full break would take the 8-ish weeks people are mentioning. The pneumonia probably didn't help things much. Had that too (back in the day) and I remember one's whole system basically gets taken over trying to fight it.

Ya, I've cracked and broken ribs in my teens and 20s. I do remember they sucked bum....but while hurt, body rebounded,
Body doesnt bounce back as well now.
Sure, same time frame, 6 to 8 weeks.
The pnuemonia a new jam for me, ugh. Never had that before. So, just a fun lil add-on :p
Feel...the entire body fighting that *hit.
But hey.
I rant and bitch, I'll get over it. But....feeling the age :D

Yeah, the healing process does seem to take a beating as one packs on the years. For me it's my shins. I spend a fair amount of time knocking about in the woods and wrestling timber for various woodworking projects. My shins have always suffered the brunt of it -- more scars than you could shake a stick at -- but these days they take ages to heal. Well, they heal over fast enough but the marks take a lot longer to fade.

Rib injuries are terrible. Just after I joined CM I was a passenger in a write-off car crash. (I posted on here around the time, December 2013 IIRC).

I don't believe I broke any, merely compressed them on the right side where I was turned away to the left and the seat belt (which saved me!) stopped me and pressed them in. A lot of black bruising later on right ribs and sternum, was prescribed codeine and suffered the chronic constipation that comes with 4x a day use, which led to my infamous 'Turd From The Unflushed Toilet' story which coincided with Netent's CFTBL release, hence the association with the unfortunate faecal-looking Netent creature.

TO say it was miserable was an understatement. Merely getting out of bed to use the bog, eating, moving was extemely painful for over a week. A sneeze would have made me scream and I recall the discomfort of trying to stop the uncontrollable muscle spasms that come with sneezing. It took over 4 weeks before I felt confident enough to allow myself a good sneeze without trying to suppress them. There's literally nothing you can do aside fromm stay as still as possible and take pain relief, then wait weeks. :(

f*ck, bruv
a sneeze is 'shoot me inna head, now'
Damned near called 911 (you have a different number) because a sneeze laid me flat.

... take pain relief, then wait weeks. :(
It's funny how the pain relief ends up becoming a major PITA in and of itself. I smashed up my wrist good and proper in a (stupid) mountain biking accident about 5 years ago. Was on morphine for the first week or so then codeine after that. I couldn't get off that shit fast enough! Sure, the relief was most welcome -- to be fair, floating on that morphine was the most relaxed I've been in my adult life -- but the side effects were horrible IMHO. In the end I just toughed through the last of it without.

I think the Mrs might have preferred I stayed on the drugs for that last week or two and spared her the short-temperedness that came with the pain. I couldn't do it though, tossed the pills in the bin and lived on 20 minute naps for the last of it.

I went to the hospital. Sent me home with morphine.
Same, sure, masked all that pain. But I was utterly useless. Better by 2nd week because I took pharmacy alieve. Was MUCH better. Ate hrough the pain rather than disguising it.

I dont much share.
I broke my back in 4 spots at 18. (therapy for years...it really sucked lol)
Was on codeine.
And was prescribed MORE codeine.
Then more.
And more.
Higher dosages.
I was like...no, ef this, I DO not want to be an addict (and i wouldnt take even tylenol for the next 30 years).
Ya, I suffered through mad pain (and well, still today, that aint wont ever go away, but it's background noise I deal with).

Sure, if youre in super incredible pain, a weeks worth.
Anttibiotics, of course.
Otherwise, trooper though
First time, in all that time, I had to (I mean, I had to breathe lol)
Othewrise, nah

Just....thank you all.
Week 6, near to no sleep...near 7am.
Feels like my entire body has gone utter...kaput.
Tired...exhausted, broken down
Even when the ribs seem fine...everything else, like fighting a flu every day.

Just,,,glad it aint so much out the norm, cuz, man, feel like packing it in lol

FWIW
I'm grateful to people that had shared, and want to share back,
Mad pain. Lessened. Again, mad pain. Lessened.
I'd have thougt a.....curve.
Loads, less, done.
But, as someone mentioned, 6 to 8 weeks.. Spikes and lows.
And suddenly....gone
I woke up...and ..just....gone.
:)
Anyway, ty for all the input and sharing. :)
I appreciate it <3
