Whilst ridiculous and visually funny, it's equally ridiculous how people not only are losing rationale and perspective, but how he probably feels he 'has to' do that, given the multitude of filthy germ-touting pr*cks out there

Where's the logic in rushing to a packed supermarket to fight over some first world luxury items? Lots of people and close contact? Might even be some sweat and blood flying around. Way to go humans.

These are moments where I am really happy that I grew up on a small farm in rural Romania, although many will say communist, 3rd world etc. While that is correct in some ways, it also taught me and many others how to be self-sufficient.

- we made soap ourselves (starts with boiling large pieces of fat )
- distilled "schnaps" 3 or even 4 times to the level you could use it for disinfection
- we grew all veggies & fruits ourselves and had conserved jars lining the food pantry
- same goes for slaughtering one pig every year, dozens of chicken and rabbits, some lambs - most of it during the cold season to make storage & conservation easier.
- using anything in nature for daily needs, e.g. soil to clean dishes, big leaves to wipe your a**e when out in the fields, brush teeth with salt, etc
- made our own bread from own grains
- list by far not complete

The opposite is what we see today. People fighting for toilet rolls or the like.

People shop as usual, maybe because the government is doing a better job keeping the populace informed (they set up a website where each case is recorded with exact descriptions where & when they caught it, who has been in contact, where they worked, where they have been in the days prior to the positive test etc) and take super-stringent measures once a case is discovered.

My wife of +20 years is not of European descent, and her outlook on life is very different from the one usually present in Europe (and esp. in Northern Europe). I'm very fortune to have this balance in my life. She always sets me straight when I go on and nitpick about some mundane "first world" problem.

The reaction of some people to this current situation should really serve as a wake up call about their own lives and what really matters in life. Maybe the world actually needed something like this to happen? Probably doesn't make that much of a difference in the end though.

The MHF syndrome (more, higher, faster) has our civilization in a firm grip ever since the onset of the industrial age, in parts going back millennia. The result is the society you described as MHF leaves little room for anything that runs against the mantra.

I doubt the "small" Covid-19 hiccup will change much, unfortunately.

Just had this on my news feed and I think it is a perfect example of the greed you describe.

Mr T had pharma companies at the WH for a meeting. A CEO of a German company took part, turns out they will most probably be the first to have a Covid-19 vaccine. What did Mr T do after the meeting? He tried to poach the scientists from the company and/or get the vaccine "exclusive for the USA" by offering them insane amounts of money. The CEO was abruptly replaced on his return from the US.

I was thinking that myself this afternoon as in how I am thinking this is the world being punished and maybe a wake up call/2nd chance thing for what the world has turned into, All the greed, technology and getting away from the simple things and no common sense anymore.

I am not religious or anything but I think it's "gods" way of saying ok stop with all the nonsense.

Also, I work for the biggest beverage company in the world and they won't directly pay us if we have to stay home, it's either our benefits or employment insurance which neither cover full pay, I am also going to ask Monday if they will if not give us or at a discount let us pay for Water and or stuff that we sell that is just sitting there collecting dust at the moment, Probably not cause now they can get more from customers and we have asked in the past even for charity reasons and the food bank and they would not do it.

My sister works in a grocery store and she got sent home for the 2 weeks today, we did shop today but we don't have enough for 2 weeks and I am already quickly running out of money.

The banks and government are like oh ya everything is fine and we will extend credit, I talked 3 banks that I deal with and not 1 will give me an increase or anything and I have not missed 1 payment and paid the balance off a couple of times as well and first time asking for an increase and nope won't do it.
