Nuclear warfare won't happen, countries' armament of them is purely for clout and so as to be taken seriously when at the negotiating table.
Leaders and nations have seen what effect they have since they were used decades ago, when their devastation was still to be fully determined. And as much as humans like to project and conjure up Armageddon- esque scenarios, ICBM attacks certainly aren't in any way realistic.
Only scenario this would even be thought of is if a leader's perhaps lost a conflict and sends out a nuke out of spite, and because they're effectively finished anyway, and their 'cause' turned to chicken- feed.
Thing with that is, those ordered to launch said nukes wouldn't follow through, I believe there's a point where the 'process' would be terminated. So I wouldn't go losing my marbles over imaginary nuclear strikes just yet
