North Korea and US politics

It is straightforward your guys are making crap up. And most of us who used to be republicans would be more than happy to have Romney win the presidency.

I don't get caught up in all the "house of cards" beltway drama. I just go by the policies of each side.
Since when were you a Republican? My impression was you were a liberal progressive, that's how you've always come across anyway.

The US started the war in Iraq (on the basis of a big fat lie I might add) which led to the rise of ISIS, hence, you and you alone are responsible for the situation.

But typical, always calling for others to clean up your mess.

BTW, NATO and many other countries have soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Your ignorance to the facts is, as usual, to be expected just like the US throwing allies under the bus.

why don't they move to NE syria and stop the turks if it's the only moral thing to do, bear in mind the following regarding the kurdish terrorist campaign inside turkey:

In the early 80's, Abdullah Öcalan, the organization's leader, demanded the civilians to choose between loyalty to the government and support for the PKK, which led to the campaign of terror against the civilians, doctors, Kurdish elites, institutions, schools and even hospitals. Thousands of people were killed for serving the government or just for refusing to support the organization.

Additionally, hundreds of schools were burned and more than 217 teachers were murdered. The PKK saw schools as "emblems of Turkish imperialism" that belonged to the "colonial assimilation system" and a justification for the killing of teachers was that they taught Turkish to Kurdish children.

In the early 90's, the organization began to bomb civilian targets and commit massacres against innocent civilians after the government refused to negotiate. According to Jessica Stanton, an associate professor in the global policy area, the shift in PKK tactics was a direct response to government behavior.

Abdullah Öcalan, the organization's leader, stated publicly: If attacks on military and police targets could not force the government to negotiate, then perhaps attacks on civilian targets would.

The organization's terror campaign was so brutal that it even caused criticism within the organization. During the organization's fourth Conference, some members of the organization demanded the end of attacks against the civilians which reduced the number of attacks for a few years but didn't end them. The organization continued to slaughter civilians, bomb tourist sites and hotels, and kidnap tourists, and is seen responsible for roughly 7,000 civilian deaths since it was founded In 1997, the State Department listed the PKK as a foreign terrorist organization based on its continuous use of violence during the 90's.

-----------------

And to requote that new york times article regarding the sdf/ypg "areas they control are festooned with photos of the imprisoned P.K.K. leader, Abdullah Ocalan,"

This is why the kurd militias need to disband now, isis is mostly gone, if they reappear in number the russians/syrians/iraqis/turks will remove them, by sitting there in numbers like a conventional army they (the kurds) are tempting the turks to attack.

This White House won’t cooperate with impeachment proceeding.

Reminder that there were TEN Benghazi investigations.

Hillary cooperated in every instance.

And she even testified for 11 hours straight.

That’s what an innocent person does.

Trump is guilty, pathetic & afraid.

And now the GOP is trying to distort this impeachment trial to their base and sell it as the dems are trying to overturn the 2016 elections. it Is unbelievable.

@mack341 youre living in fantasy land. You think that all the attention on trump is because the dems lost the election. All the attention is on trump because this is what he does. He calls attention to himself because he has some narcissistic personality. It started with the doctored photos of his inauguration and has degenerated into a circus with his wild claims and stupid behavior with no thought in what he is really saying or doing.only outrageous claims to distract.

merci beaucoup for the compliment...however if trump were replaced with somebody his voters wanted, with the same core policies/ideas, I believe the msm media would create a hellstorm to go after them as well. Trump's personality flaws are his achilles heel for them to hang their attacks on, but the underying motive is clear, to attack populist conservative ideas/policy.

Edit: Right my understanding currently regarding co-operation with the impeachment process, is the republicans want the democrats to have a formal vote in congress which would then start the impeachment process officially ( assuming it's passed which I guess is likely ) this then gives republicans subpoena rights to question the witnesses alleging high crimes and misdemeanours by trump and request release of documents [discovery]

I'm happy to be corrected if this is wrong, but this is my interpretation of the reason the white house is not agreeing to co-operate atm.

No doubt the Iraq war was a big mistake. But as I recall the UK, Poland and I think Kuwait backed the war but as usual you want to not tell the full story, only if it suits your Anti-US narrative.

Sure NATO has troops from like 35 countries but the number of troops (non-combat) in Afghanistan are almost equal the 14K US troops.

The US can't stay forever.

And Greenland together with Palau presented the fake evidence for WMD's in Iraq. ...Silly me, how can I think that it is not the US to blame.

Now just as an experiment for your "UK, Poland, Kuwait were in it too" argument. Whenever you take 200 people into one room (as in 200 countries that we have on this planet), you will always find a handful of fools. That is just the nature of things.

Kuwait had no other choice and UK and Poland sucked up to the US in the hope to get something in return. Anyone else that joined the "coalition of the willing"? I certainly didn't see scores of countries lining up on their knees and begging the US to let them take part in an illegal war and send their young people to die just for the sake to have a war.

Yet again you pull the "Anti-US" card. I am tired of writing it down for you again that I am not "anti-US" because as it seems you suffer from a syndrome called "selective reading".

Nobody has said the US should stay forever but you do not stab your allies in the back. But then you can ask among others the Vietnamese, the Taliban or even the Iranians. They all had the same "Aha-moment" when they realized that the US is not to be trusted.

How did the IRA thing develop in the UK? Was that all super-friendly people having a pint together in a pub?

I indicated to you to read the history of the Kurds that ultimately led to the rise of the PKK. In a way, you could compare it with Iran. Foreign forces create havoc in other regions which leads to the rise of extreme factions. For the Kurds, most of the issues from today can be traced back to the Treaty of Lausanne.

Funny that the British Empire was so often right in the middle of it. And nearly as often together with their buddies from the US.

You’re not an expert in constitutional law and neither am I. However, you do not need the house to vote on impeachment proceedings. There are no rules that state that this is the procedure. The constitution does not say you need the house to vote. This call for a house vote is a flimsy stalling technique. Also, it’s not like they said hold the vote and we will comply. What he is doing is obstruction.

The house is controlled by dems. They have the votes. The tide of public opinion is turning for impeachment. The dems no longer need to fear it will affect re election.

If the house votes it will buy the gop a few days at the most.

Every single piece of evidence that has been released has corroborated the whistle blower s story.

Trump even confirmed it by asking China to step in on camera.

Just because he breaks the law out in the open doesn’t mean it’s ok.

Kenneth Star investigated for months/years before the Republicans voted on an official impeachment inquiry. So that point from Mr T and the Republicans is moot.

Plus, it was the Republicans who changed the rules and gave the committees more subpoena power. They forgot at the time that "what goes around, comes around".

I fully agree, typical Mr T stalling and blaming others. But it is as usual hot air as he has no grounds to stand on.

Did you read the letter he sent to Congress? Half of it is legalese, the other half are political reasons why there should be no impeachment. As if those count in this process.

Harry the turks have been US allies for decades, this is the problem, the kurds aren't allies in the same geopolitical sense. It's one or the other in this situation. What can the Kurds offer the US, a foothold in syria from which to annoy assad and block the iranians? ISIS were done as soon as the russians arrived with the required expertise and air power, it would've just taken longer without the sdf and US air force help.

That wasn't in an election year though was it? This is being done to simply influence the outcome of an election that the dems looked like they were on target to lose imo, they should hold that congress vote, what are they so scared of, it blowing up in their face ? Schiff is potentially a witness and so maybe shouldn't be leading the investigation, as he is probably part of it's genesis.

I had a good laugh how the GOP is parroting Mr T with "kangaroo court" after their idol used it in a tweet.

Couldn't find the entire interview but it was Meadows, Gaetz and Zeldin all saying this is a "kangaroo court" and Gaetz put the icing on the cake by saying "Schiff behaves like Captain Kangaroo". These are the people representing the US folks! :D

"In 1996, Clinton became the first Democrat since Franklin D. Roosevelt to be elected to a second full term"

"In 1998, Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives for perjury and obstruction of justice following allegations that he committed perjury and obstructed justice to conceal an affair with Monica Lewinsky, a 22-year old White House Intern"

So the impeachment investigations by starr began in 1995?

Tell that the thousands and thousands of girls and women that have been raped by ISIS .

Turkey has not been an ally per se, but through NATO. Remember, Turkey did not allow the US to use the airbase in Turkey in the Iraq war, so not really 100% ally. Turkey was one of the last to join the alliance in WW2 when it was an opportune moment for them and thus the US never regarded them as a full ally.

Mr T thinks NATO is "obsolete", hence, the "ally thing" will not wash mack. :D

That's a pretty bad way to conduct/win an argument harry....ISIS should've never been allowed to get off the ground in the first place, there must've been plenty of opportunities to stop them early on instead of letting them take over raqqa etc...they were funded by the west's allies mainly, the gulf kingdoms. Where did they get all the weapons, ammunition, vehicles and equipment from, places to store it etc..overnight?

Things seemed to change once russia got involved, up til then the US hadn't really bombed them that much as they (isis) were attacking the syrian govt forces (assad) who the west badly wanted deposed.

How could the west with all it's air power, nato troops in the region and iraq not have protected those yazidis stuck on a hill/mountain with isis surrounding them? That would've prevented a lot of rapes too.

edited: It seems they were rescued but I thought I had read and seen at the time many were taken prisoner by isis, raped and murdered etc..

Turkey and the USA have been geopolitical allies for decades, all through the cold war etc...the airbase and radar systems proves that. How could they fight/confront the turks over the kurd issue when they have personnel sat stationed in turkey, it was never going to happen once the turks got serious, it's their backyard after all, they hold more of the cards. And this could've all happened last year but trump changed his mind and delayed the withdrawal, so there has been a year to negotiate something, or for the kurds return to their respective countries.

okay but when did the congress committees investigations and subpoena's begin, [as they are now] in 1994?

edit: I thought you said starr investigated months prior to impeachment proceedings?

I edited it to months/years - my fault sorry, my brain forgot the actual timeline and I was under the impression it was only months.

The Republicans were banking on the impeachment in the election. Gingrich predicted they would pick up a lot of seats because of the Starr investigations. They picked up only a couple of seats and Gingrich resigned.

A main source of income for ISIS was the smuggling of oil/fuel into Turkey!

You keep saying the Kurds should return to their respective countries. It is their historical homeland where they are now!

Right I shall bid this thread farewell for a day or two, can feel escalations rumbling and it would be a shame, maybe once more things develop story wise, it'll be easier to discuss.
Probably best to just gently focus on the Brexit thread for now

Starr's legal fees must've been astronomical  and it all ended in a damp squib. No hard feelings harry :) this is the thread that keeps giving, so don't want to spoil it, we've got the whole of 2020 yet to debate, filling me with joy the thought of it I can tell you - not!

“Now, the Kurds are fighting for their land, just so you understand, they are fighting for their land. And as somebody wrote in a very, very powerful article today, they didn’t help us in the Second World War, they didn’t help us with Normandy as an example, they mentioned the names of different battles, but they’re there to help us with their land, and that’s a different thing."

So why is he supporting Saudi-Arabia and Israel for example? Did they help in WWII or Normandy? Are they not protecting their land too?

Oh I forgot, the Kurds are not paying cash. As I said, he sold them to the highest bidder, that's all that counts for Mr T. Plus in this case, he will do anything to deflect from the impeachment inquiry, anything.

And give me a break about his crocodile tears. It's fine to send 1,000s of soldiers to Saudi-Arabia or stocking up the number of troops to Afghanistan, etc ....the list is endless?

But let's agree. Wars have to end and it would be good to end them all. So please follow Mr T's call for America First and recall all your soldiers, close your 400+ army bases that are spread around the world and give up the petrodollar as well as renounce the Bretton Woods Agreement. Once you have done all that, we can talk about Mr T's crocodile tears. Until then it is just another con from Mr T you and other supporters are falling for, sadly.

BTW, more bombs have been dropped on Afghanistan this month than in any other month since 2010. That sure sounds like Mr T is bringing the troops home and is ending the wars.

Is this partly because, prior to peace negotiations, the taleban launched attacks and killed an american ?

The US have got themselves in a quagmire now or rather the hawks etc.. did this, if they leave they know regardless of agreements the taleban will basically takeover again. I suppose the US could provide air support from their other bases in the region, but there won't be any big military targets to strike, the taleban won't sit in big offices like a normal govt, but most likely run the country via the villages.

I understand why the US doesn't want to leave in terms of the sacrifice already made in the 17 years, just to hand the country back to the same people who were in control before the war started. Bush jnr should've been compelled [or cheney/rumsfield] to be the special envoy to sort it out, it was his call.

Watched General jack keane be interviewed by lou dobbs on this and the kurdish issue last night, he was getting agitated and rocking in his chair just because lou dared to question the wisdom of all this deployment and intevention.

One thing I would consider doing is dropping japanese knotweed seeds all over the blinking poppy/heroin crops, maybe that could stop them growing the stuff. [that's the sort of outside of the box thinking trump likes, war by other means ]

edit: just realised I've gone back on my intention to give this thread a steer for a few days d'oh!

Taliban --> Afghanistan, US invasion started in October 2001
Kurds --> Iraq - US invasion started in March 2003

Totally unrelated. The war in Iraq created a power vacuum where ISIS had room to grow and spread. And they are not defeated just as little as the Taliban no matter how much Cadet Bone Spurs shouts. ISIS might have lost its territory but you don't defeat an ideology with that.

With ISIS spreading from Iraq to Syria, the US got involved and the only people supporting them were the Kurds. They did all the ground fighting while the US did the air support. Some British and French units were active in Syria as well or still are.

I knew you'd dissect it. You can't help yourself.

The three bottom paragraphs read like a 'conspiracy theory' you want to be careful believing those Harry :D :p

You could be right, the tricks john perkins describes in his economic hitman books and talks are probably alive and well imo, many major politicians, including hillary will have links to oligarchs and sheiks etc.., with shady bits going on, donations and influence etc... Donald's been in real estate, that's a prime area the oligarchs like to invest in as it's a tangible asset which can provide good income/capital, so no doubt his paths have crossed with many 'interesting' characters.

But it's a bit like hunter biden, tucker mentioned this, that many, many children/relatives of US politicians benefit from association. So you would have to pick on them all rather than one to be fair, ditto senators and congressman and donors. If trump is put under a microscope so should they be.
What establishment mack? Still buying the conspiracy theories?

He won because of 70,000 votes in three states gave him those electoral votes and thus the win. To turn around 70,000 voters doesn't look like an uphill battle to me. The 2018 midterms are the proof for that.

IMO, the Biden thing is not the "big crime" Mr T and his sycophants committed (although the one that will probably get him impeached), I see it more as "cherry on top" for Mr T.

I think, the "bigger ticket" with Ukraine is Naftogaz. I suggest you google Naftogaz and read what efforts Guiliani, some shady Russian-American businessmen (who could not pay court-ordered damages but out of the blue donated huge sums to Mr T's super PAC and reelection fund), Rick Perry and others made to have "friends" being put on the board of Naftogaz and tried to get gas contracts to go to Texan friends of Mr T.

Why else would Sondland get so heavily involved in Ukraine although it wasn't his responsibility? Mr T gave him the post as ambassador to the EU (not Ukraine which is not part of the EU) after he donated $1 million to Mr T's PAC and reelection campaign. If you read this guy's history, it is filled with strange deals.

As I said from the beginning, the ominous phone call is probably not even the tip of the iceberg. Plus, we don't know what other stuff Mr T has hidden in his super-secret vault.

Remember my post which you thought it reads like a conspiracy theory? Looks like the chickens are coming home to roost.

Exactly those people have been arrested today as they were trying to do a runner. They donated heavily to Mr T's reelection campaign, had lunch/dinner with him in the White House and assisted Inspector Clouseau aka Rudy Guiliani in Ukraine. Plus, they were pushing for having the US ambassador removed and Mr T happily obliged, after all, they paid cash.

And guess who is representing them in court? Manafort's lawyer!

You can read the indictment here:

Sorry Mack is out of the office atm, he says if anyone asks he's on a nk/trump thread vacation! :p

Mr T showing again, first how clueless he is and second, that he is a shameless braggart and liar and lastly, trying to apply his old con - "creat a crisis than propose a solution to be seen as the great saviour".

Yesterday, he lauded Turkey as the great ally and NATO partner and today he threatens them. Question comes up which country has he not threatened yet? The coward feeling strong with the nuclear ball in close proximity.

Hahaha, the morning is getting better and better. The plot thickens for Mr T. :D

Mr T of course saying: "I don't know Parnas and Fruman" ....there you go, another few people added to the long "low-level coffee boy" list.

Found this nugget while looking for the pics: "Giuliani associates Fruman and Parnas were arrested at Dulles, where they were trying to flee to Vienna, current home of Dmytro FIRTASH, whose business partner, Lyovochkin, funnelled money to Trump's inaugural and was given Trump polling data by Manafort. "

Rudy met/communicated with Manafort at the prison, who at the time was paid by Firtash for his work in Ukraine. Firtash himself was basically running Naftogaz and is now represented by Joe DiGenova and Victoria Toensing (two regular Faux News guests). Mr. T's ex-WH lawyer John Dowd represents the two "gentlemen" alongside with Rudy. Keeping all within the "Mafia family", we've seen this plenty of times in the past. :D

Rudy also had lunch with Parnas and Fruman at the Mr T International Hotel just before they went to the airport with their one-way tickets.

The braggart with the "best brain" should look at some pics, maybe he remembers then that he very well knows Parnas and Fruman.

Parnas at the White House. Mr T having the same smile like when he had Lavrov and Kisljiak at the WH.

All crooks together in one pic :D

The two with Junior, looks like another Mr T Tower meeting where they talk about "adoptions"

Sorry for overflowing the thread but this is pure parody. You simply cannot make this sh*t up. :D

Rudy had planned to follow Fruman and Parnas to Vienna 24 hours after their departure. And Dowd's writing to Congress explaining why his clients cannot produce documents and appear before Congress.

Mr T can feign ignorance as much as he wants. He's been getting away all his life with "plausible deniability", looks like he's running out of luck.

Interesting to me, Harry, that this story/issue seems to have piqued your interest much more than the zelensky - biden request, or do you feel added on top this may very well be the coup de grace in a successful impeachment?

I said from the start that the Ukraine call was probably just the tip of the iceberg. And these events are surely not the end yet either.

Remember, Manafort gave Firtash the Mr T's polling data, Firtash then makes a huge donation to Mr T's inauguration - so this started well before Mr T's election.

Parnas and Fruman donated a huge amount to Mr T's Super Pac and crucially to Texas congressman Sessions (Republican). Plus, House Minority Leader Mc Carthy also got some dough, who now quickly made a statement that he will give the money to charity. Why only now? He happily accepted it. Also makes you wonder why McCarthy has been defending Mr T so ferociously.

And remember the US ambassador to the EU called Sondland donated $1 million to Mr T campaign before getting the job. That is the guy who has a central role in the Ukraine saga.

Sessions then wrote to the state department to have the US ambassador to Ukraine removed to which Mr T happily obliged in May this year.

This is "Pay to Play" politics per excellence. Exactly the way Mr T operated all his adult life. Crooked to the core. He's selling the country to the highest bidder.

The question is now how many more people will Mr T take with him to the gutter. :D

Is it to fund the republican campaigns in 2020, that all this has gone on? Or is this the 2016 election?

It is Mr T's greed.

This is my suspicion. You might laugh now but I am pretty sure I am not far off the mark.

Mr T was close to going bankrupt again or something else (e.g. that he assisted Russians and other ex-USSR nationals to launder money, I mean why would he and his sons brag that they "get all the funding we need from Russia" in 2009) as he could not get any loans from American banks and took it all from Deutsche Bank, who itself was right in the middle of probably the largest money-laundering scandal in history. Those investigations started a long time ago. So Mr T smelled something or got warned and decided to run for president as it gives him full immunity.

Remember, he is a big opportunist and the Republicans didn't have a big-ticket candidate to face Hillary, so they went with Mr T. BTW, his planning to run for president started well before he announced it. That wasn't just the spur of the moment.

One of the main reasons why this is my suspicion is because Mr T is fighting tooth and nail to have anything disclosed about his taxes/companies/organisations etc. If you are innocent then there is no need to spend millions for lawyers.

He started his reelection campaign on the day of his inauguration and has never stopped campaigning. All efforts to try and get reelected as it would mean that he keeps his immunity until at least 2024 and many cases would be dismissed because of the statute for limitation.

Just a short post and most probably only a very small part of what and who is all involved in this saga.

The second thing to Mr T's greed is how he is profiting from his presidency. IT started with his inauguration where most of the money went to some of his properties and they charged exorbitant fees. There is an email trail where one person in the organizing team asked "what the hell..?" with regard to the prices Mr T charged for ballrooms, hotel rooms etc..

He doubled the fees for his Mar-A-Lago club, spent on aggregate more time at his properties than at the WH, has the military and Pence stay at his hotels etc. etc..... the list is endless. The reason is pure and simple...greed and for that, he sells the country to the highest bidder.
