For a while now some of us on the Casinomeister crew have had grave concerns about the looming threat of machine-generated posts and “content” on our forums.

As it happens we’ve already seen the negative effects of AI-content in our complaints (PAB) service. There we get countless repetitions of the same ChatGPT- or Claude-generated nonsense telling us how bad casino behaviour is “against the law” and a “violation of accepted standards” and how we as a "protector of the people” are duty-bound to “uphold" the rights and freedoms of all free persons blah blah blah. None of which has the slightest thing to do with the player’s case. It’s just fluff, machine-generated garbage that’s a waste of useful bandwidth and our time.

And now we’re seeing that rubbish appearing on our forums. A little research tells us we’re not the first to see this and be concerned. Indeed, case studies on Stack Overflow and Reddit have shown that in worst-case scenarios AI-content can severely undermine a site’s appeal to its readers: information community monitors have seen participation slashed by as much as 25% in a single week, 50% or 80% in a matter of weeks.

Needless to say that dire situation is one we’d prefer to avoid so we are taking steps to counter it before it becomes a problem. The good news is that expert knowledge communities like ours with a strong social fabric can and do resist the degrading effects of ChatGPT, Claude and other generative-AI. The bad news is that newcomers to the community are the most likely to be turned away if AI-content is allowed to dominate.

Our first line of defence is to make it easy for readers to flag AI-generated content when they see it:

As you will all know every post on the site has the “Like” link (1) that allows you to “thumbs-up” a post or choose whatever emoji you think is applicable.
We’ve now added a robot head (2) — he may look something like a certain rude fellow named Bender — to allow you to flag what you think is AI-generated content. Of course the post footer will show that you’ve flagged the content (3) and the robot head shows up at the foot of the post (4).

using-bender-emoji-2.webp

The idea is that if we see an accumulation of robot heads on a particular post we’ll (eventually) be alerted to it and can come and have a look-see to determine if there is a problem that we need to take action on.

(quick side note: giving the Robot to a post is neutral, it neither adds to nor detracts from the person’s Reputation. The point being that you’re just flagging something you think is AI-content, not penalising the person who posted it.)

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Let us know, post a comment below and we’ll do what needs doing.

PS. If you get an Alert that you’ve been assigned a Ai-Content-Bot badge ...

… please don’t sweat it. The Badge system on the forums is a bit tempermental when these things are first created. It settles down after a couple days and behaves itself. If the Badge doesn’t disappear on it’s own after a day or so please don’t hesitate to DM me and I’ll get rid of it for you.

AI responses can bring substantial value to a gambling forum by offering fast, accurate, and unbiased insights to users navigating a landscape that’s often complex and emotionally charged. Whether it’s breaking down the odds of different betting systems, summarizing the latest regulatory changes, or offering probability-based perspectives on common strategies, AI can be a helpful companion for decision-making. It can also help flag risky behavior, encourage responsible gambling, and steer conversations toward informed choices rather than emotional reactions. Plus, in a space where misinformation can spread quickly, a consistent and neutral voice grounded in data is a real asset.

(Just testing the system 🤣)

⬆️ Yes, an excellent example of the machine-drool that we’re talking about here. Thank you for that. ;)

Flag in 3, 2, 1 :)

:D Duly noted. ;)

It has become a huge disease on bitcointalk forum, a lot of even existing members using AI as in you suddenly see their post quality become weirdly 'news commentary like'. Great addition, tho I haven't seen it on this forum yet.
We’ve seen some of it creep in but most of us on staff were writers at one point or another so our tolerance for that nonsense is pretty low. And anything that does hit the forums tends to get flagged by our readers so the net effect thus far has been fairly minimal.

That said there is every reason to believe that we will be targeted just like every other forum in the world, hence the desire to get measures in place BEFORE the flood. We’ve worked long and hard to keep Casinomeister real and relevant, this is just the next battle and (hopefully) we’re ready for it.

Please note: the Bot system we’re creating uses Badges to flag repeat offenders BUT it’s glitchy at first and tends to do false positives for a day or so before it settles down and behaves itself. The Badge will go away shortly, if not let me know and I’ll get things squared away for you.

PS. As you can see under my avatar ⬅️ the silly thing has flagged me too. That’ll go away soon(ish) as will (should) any other false positives.

No no, it’s false positives being auto-generated by the Badge system. It should go away auto-magically, likely within an hour or so. If it persists don’t hesitate to let me know (in a day or two) and I’ll get things cleaned up for you.

Yeah, I think we should be good now. Please don’t hesitate to ping me if you’ve "got the Bot”. :)

Mine has gone now, too. I promise never to use AI generated content in a post again, unless I am responding to an AI post! 😂

Oy vey! Sorry Satch, it should have settled down by now. Looking into it.

OK Satch, should be cleared now, or soon will be.

I understand the idea of the emoji but I think some people will ignore what it's for and/or just use it because "it's funny". Do you think this is a problem or an issue with "misusing" the system?

Yeah, that’s a fair point. People don’t usually abuse the other emojis though so hopefully that’ll apply to the new one too. So far it’s being used properly — see post #2 above  — but we’ll have to wait and see.

Bravo @Max!!
Exposing this 'problematic' and how Casinomeister wants to handle these situations shows what Casinomeister is a place where users can find truthful and quality information. Obviously, it’s a challenge to distinguish AI-generated content from what is created by a real user. Personally, I use AI to check my spelling and polish my expressions, but never with the intention of writing something that is not coherent or aligned with what I want to express.

Flagging AI-generated content as a reference for users seems interesting to me, as it allows us to show genuine content versus content that simply used AI to research or generate an idea, etc.

There’s also something we could start thinking about (just an idea/suggestion): a sub-forum related to AI, where we could include topics on how to use these powerful tools to help users in different areas, and I’m not just talking about iGaming, but in a broader sense, the current implementations of this technology and the future developments that are rapidly unfolding.

BTW this is how I've used AI to help myself to better express and spell check my thoughts:
