Things are getting closer to home. Confirmed cases in Ottawa and Toronto now. Our Health minister saying that 30 to 70% could become infected.

Spring is in the air, which means mold from rotting vegetation as snow disappears, and I am phlegmy and coughing. I need to go out today, I shall wear a mask. Not to protect me, but to alleviate the worries of others.

My roomer works in a hotel. We are a big tourist destination, this will impact summer work for so many. Thankfully, unemployment is waiving the wait period for anyone quarantined or instructed to self isolate, and has additional measures for employees whose hours are reduced.

Of course we need to make jokes. But this will impact everyone at some point, whether it is economic, socially or even medically.

i say to the peeps who keep posting funny pics and remarks about this
SOD off somewere else this is serious chit i got a family member in the 40´s was in good heath and all battling to stay alive from this, so this is in no way something to take ligthly.
stay save all :)
Why? Was anyone laughing at you?

I don't need to be told what to take serious or not or thought-policed, but thanks anyway

134 new uk cases in ! day,we will end up like italy pretty soon.
Dont think enough steps are being taken by the government,No serious attempt seems to have
made to slow down the spread, we have no restrictions on movement or crowds.
Talking to an NHS health visitor last monday, she had had no advise whatsoever on the virus
which is pretty crap as the majority of her patients are elderly and very much at risk.

Been thinking hard about my own situation, I am the full time carer for my wife who is as at risk
as anyone can be.If I did catch the virus I would have to move out the house for a few weeks and
get a full time carer to look after her.Worrying times

Well had to go to my doctors as needed blood took yet again this morning urgently.

Shutter was down and receptionist let me in side door and told me i was only patient getting seen today and only as the blood was an emergency so i should feel honoured.

Inside the nurse told me it was a precautionary measure and to keep the surgery open they are not seeing any patients for anything and doctors will consult over the phone.

I was like okay so to keep the surgery open you have closed it. Now that is my kind of logic lol.

But at least instead of seeing doctor tomorrow they will phone me.

Yes well in Italy doctors have already decided to consign the elderly

Wow that is grim reading. The lack of ventilaters seems to be the key to how many folk will survive amongst the frail who catch it :(

Got diagnosed with diabetes last week after a blood test, had no advice about it except book another test
in 2 months, somehow I dont that will happen, our surgery is crap at the best of times, they will happily
close it for the virus.

Perhaps now is the time to buy quite a few shares because once this has blown over, the shares have to recover to where they were in the very near future.

Better idea than my ciggies and vouchers, but sadly still in the same fiscal nightmare.

Its a good move IMO, worst outcome would be a break-even scenario

Fred done of betfred bought 3% shares in william hill on monday due to American expansion.

Col I'm not sure Cobra can issue you a level of reassurance regarding this matter, although it probably is of concern to some of our MPs too
Cobra? Corona?
This is beginning to sound like one BIG piss-up!

Canadian president self isolates as wife shows symptoms of virus

Neither is telling people not to post things if you are upset by something avoid the thread, too many people offended these days by anything.
Im not easily offended by anything never said anything about anyone in this forum in all the years ive been here
But when your in a sitiaton where a family member is critically ill of the virus you read what you can about it
And here was a thread about it but reading some comments here pissed me off
But do what you wont i dont give a rats ass with reply like yours ill just stay away from the thread like you said
Have a nice day

I think Denmark and Norway has shut down all schools, and told people to stay at home.
Seeing as they are pretty close to number of infected as we have here, im guessing Sweden will do the same in the coming days.

I was at the pharmacy today to get my amphetamines (sleep go byebye-pills), and an old lady coughed at me.
She assured me it was just the normal flu, so i dont need to worry.
Still kind of wish she would have coughed into her hands or elbow like normal people do.

So the UKGC will now be 'UK Gets Corona'?

I would avoid delivered takeaway food like the plague. The amount of doorbells/knockers they touch, random people the delivery drivers exchange money with on doorsteps and the warmth of the packaging make it a perfect vehicle for transmission.

At least she didn't give you a bear hug

Its times like these that I am so greatful to be single. Imagine being cooked up with a Mrs 24/7

Divorce rates are going to skyrocket!

Would not mind some company if they tell us to self-quarantine.
Maybe i can search on Tinder and see if someones up for having a Corona-romance.
A coromance.

But that could and would probably backfire.
Hm..

I think we should've blocked air travel to and from china/far east early doors, as the tourist destinations in europe popular with chinese and asian tourists have effectively fast tracked the spread elsewhere.

Now we've got to shut schools and take more drastic actions but a stitch in time would've probably saved nine.

I thought with the medical breakthroughs you hear about, dna, genetics etc.. we'd have more weapons against these viruses, to inactivate them.

One vitamin that can help the body fight viruses is vitamin d

"Vitamin D protects against colds and flu, finds major global study" from a study led by the University of Queen Mary London 2017

Vitamin D -- the 'sunshine vitamin' -- is thought to protect against respiratory infections by boosting levels of antimicrobial peptides -- natural antibiotic-like substances -- in the lungs. Results of the study fit with the observation that colds and 'flu are commonest in winter and spring, when levels of vitamin D are at their lowest. They may also explain why vitamin D protects against asthma attacks, which are commonly triggered by respiratory viruses.

Well ive been coughing for 3 days now got a headache, Im fucked

I think there have been colds going around before this coronavirus so it could be one of those, raised temp/fever is one symptom that would be different to a cold.

The World Health Organisation has said the most common symptoms are a dry cough, fever, and tiredness, but some people may also experience aches and pains, nasal congestion, a runny nose, sore throat or diarrhoea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Symptoms tend to emerge around five days after catching the virus, although estimates suggest it could be up to 14 days after.
