Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of putting together an article specifically regarding bonuses that some providers are automatically adding to accounts that are in fact disadvantaging players (i.e. the player is expected to lose MORE playing with the bonus than the same amount of play without the bonus). I don't want to give too much more away than that right now, but it would really help with the mathematical analysis of the bonuses if you could all vote in this poll (it'll be anonymous) and let me know what your average bet per spin is when playing a slots game is!

I hope everyone had a great xmas and wish you all the best for 2017!

Be careful with Bonuses!
It is  crucial  that you understand and agree to the terms and conditions of any bonus that you accept. Most of the complaints that come through our arbitration service are bonus related; it would be safe to say that there are tens of thousands of players who have never complained because they realized after the fact that they did not understand or had never read the terms. Nothing in a casino is free – so whenever you see “free” being used, there are stipulations. It is important for you to understand that.

Please check out our Bonus Section that lists the offers given by our Accredited Casinos. No deposit bonuses, welcome bonuses (AKA sign up bonuses [SUBs]), exclusive bonuses, reload bonuses, free spin bonuses...all this and more!
Depends largely on my current balance, but generally in the €0.25 - €0.50 range starting off. If my balance is above 100 I rarely spin below €1 though.

I opted for 25p to 50p.

I'm usually play MG 243 ways at min bet. Same applies to games that have more than 25 lines (eg Flowers, Cleopatra Plus).
If I play a game that is 15 to 25 lines (eg GOT 15 lines, JATB, Evolution), I usually play 2p per line.
If it is 10 lines or less (eg Book Of Ra, DOA, MG 9-liners), I usually play 3p or 4p per line.

The one exception to my 25p to 50p betting range is when I play Rhino at 80p a spin.

243 ways, 15,20 and 30 liners => 0.60 (or 0.50)
9-liners =>0.54 (0.63 if possible)

DOA (rarely played anyway) always 0.09

Never higher, never lower.

Usually 26-50p per spin, but sometimes will go to 60p or even 90p a spin if doing well and on a large WR.

At this time and for the past few months between 90p and £2.00 per spin rare higher unless winning.
I got bored of sub 60p bets tbh which I did for over a year.

Mark mentioned currency which might be worth taking into consideration, however I avoid like the plague playing anywhere
that dont allow my local currency (GBP) And if it is in Euros then I dont think my bet sizes differ. Although I would never dream
of playing in USD with the rates as they are.

Good poll though should be interesting to see what comes out of this!

I don't really know exactly when or why... but a few years ago I started nearly always betting an odd umber of coins.

It varies from slot to slot and depends on my balance, the variance of the slot and how my luck is running, but usually I go for 7 coins. So for 20-line slots that's 1.40/spin, and for 25-liners, it's 1.75. When I feel I'm "due" a bit of luck I double my bets to 0.02 coin size for 25 spins or so, then drop back.

Recently though (last year or so) I've been playing a lot of Play'N'Go slots:
On Gemix I play 2.00 minimum, with about 30% of my spins @ 5.00 (the next level up).
On Golden Ticket & Energoonz it's mostly 2.00, with maybe 5% of spins at 10.00 (the next level up everywhere except Casumo)

So I voted 2.00 - 3.00 as that's probably about my average.

A new release I always play at minimum bet.
My default slot is JATB which I mostly play at 40p per spin. All others at around the 25-50p mark. When pissed and winning I can go from £1.00-£2.00

My average bet depends on the software. MG average between 0.60 to 0.90 a bet and if I am winning it can go to 1.20. With Netent my bet is between 0.40 to 1.00. (DOA average betsize is 0.09 bet:D) If I am having a crazy session I will go to 2.00 per bet but that is rare. I feel most comfortable betting under 1.00 though.:)

Stake for me would be dependant on the RTP of games and rollover of the bonus. Not all "forced" bonuses as you appear to be putting it are crap. As you're compiling a mathematical study , you'll obviously understand.

First off I want to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who's already responded. The results have come out pretty much as I expected. I'm going to keep checking in on the poll for the next week and will use the results as close to publication point as possible, but I would encourage everyone to vote as the larger the sample size the stronger the statement that can be made based on the responses!

Thanks again!

Great Poll ThePOGG and all the best for the festive season.

Just a friendly suggestion, would it be better converted to a base currency?

Mark

Hi Mark - thanks for the feedback!

I'm working on the assumption that the majority of CM users are either £/$/€ and there's little enough between the currencies right now that it won't make any significant difference to what I'm looking to demonstrate. So from a purely selfish perspective it's actually better to leave it as it is and this prevent having to over complicate the explanation provided with the results. In fact if people are responding in $/€ where the poll was really intended to be £, this would only strengthen the conclusions reached. It'll all become clear with the publication of the article.

All the best for the New Year!!

Hi LFH,

You're absolutely right, not all automatically added bonuses are crap. In fact the method of addition to account (automatic, opt-in, bonus code, request) is actually a little irrelevant. The only reason I'm flagging-up the automatic addition is down to the bonuses themselves being unquestionably bad for players.

By the sounds of things you would judge the 'quality' of a bonus on somewhat different criteria to other posters. I would presume that if you couldn't derive a strategy that gave you a +EV result this would be considered a "crap" bonus. That's not the direction this article will take. I don't want to say too much more right now but I'm confident you'll understand the thrust of the problem when we publish.

Many years ago when i started to play online i used to bet 2-3Euro per spin.
For some reason lowered it to 0,3-0,6 for a while, but now im up to 0,5-1,0.
If im "feeling lucky" i raise to 2-3 again for a few spins, then lower again.

I am between $2.50-$10 spin, I used to be able to grind out low bets but not anymore, probably not a good thing

Yes ME AND ED I am surprised you guys are not the only one who bets $5/spin I see 6 folks do. I would not be able to guess who
Maybe Deanna the lady whose pic is taken with 2 kids
Good Luck in coming year!!!

.90-$3 and depending on balance $6-$15. Although I did quit doing $7.50 and above because I found the slots paid much differently over a period of any time short and long.

If I deposit $500 and take a bonus that has wagering on it, I never bet below $2.10

Unlike the outcome of the spins, my bets are random, in the 1-5x minimum bet, sometimes all lines. sometimes 0.01€ on 1 line

I occasionally increase to 0.5%-1% of my balance, with max around 5€-6€.

PS: In bonus play, I'd stick to 1-2x min bet

It really depends on which games I am playing. High variance beasts from Novomatic around 1.5, while other slots around 2-3.
