UK Conservative Party Leadership Election

Joe Lycett's amazing deadpan pisstaking afterwards was excellent though.

You can almost see the exact moment in Laura's eyes when she resolves to hunt down and murder whoever booked him for the show.

Daily Mail having an entirely predictable breakdown about this.

“Freedom of speech” “you can’t joke about anything these days” “snowflake lefty woke vulture don’t like hurty words” and then....

Well, that's exactly the point - if it were a case of sauce for the goose and the gander, nothing would be said.....

I've had a timeout for the last week or so because the General Election thread was starting to properly do my nut in, especially when dunover blessed himself with mind-reading abilities, so it's probably for the best that we have a new thread to track the self-immolation of the Tory party in.

Anyway, I predicted we'd end up here a couple of weeks ago, before the first round of voting had happened, as me and a mate made a bet of a token 'point' on it. (Snip from WhatsApp below, you can see the date is the 7th July.)

So yes I think Pound Shop Thatcher Truss will win, which is what I thought two weeks ago. And now she's throwing around crazy uncosted inflationary tax cuts like confetti, she's completely unfit for the job on every single level, she's basically a robot that has learned a load of different Tory phrases that the old white Southern men who principally make up Tory party members will find comforting, so for those reasons I think she will win.

Which is great news for Labour.

POINT FOR CHOPLEY

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Loud and foul mouthed social media commentator? has an outburst of bile (who the fuck is he?)

*snore*

Chopley awakens and copies said unimaginative and bilious post, having himself run out of originality months ago, like his SM cronies.

*back to sleep*

Until he finds another one to paste in..

I watched her speech, I couldn't possibly have phrased it any better than Ian Dunt did.

I guess we were not ready for Rishi then

TBH I don't think the UK is remotely ready for Truss either, but we're still going to get a terrible dose of her.

Don't forget the sneering reference to his own (!) skin colour. Again.

That's the most insidious, despicable and telling form of political cowardice possible. Usually a symptom displayed by extreme left-wing zealots and with violence where they deem necessary. Denigrating and devaluing your own kind, illogically and counter-intuitively. It is done to garner support from the politically illiterate and weak, a cheap shot masquerading as self-guilt, in place of reasoned argument.

If you want to destroy a section of society, these scum follow a set path usually - ridicule (Little Britain type humour) then devaluation of that group, followed by lies and misinformation (often by omission and selective use of facts) and finally attempting to remove their identity.

It's actually one big admission of jealousy, envy and the inherent failure and weakness of those in the political spectrum they are themselves claiming to represent, compared to the targeted group.

Fortunately those supporting or endorsing such views are complete morons, invariably exposed as such and not taken too seriously. They are dangerous to nobody bar themselves as by definition they can never usurp complete power or control.

Like the type of politicos @ChopleyIOM supports - though I suspect tongue-in-cheek as few intelligent people would ever be brainwashed by them, just people who think IQ is a homecare store and wanking a Chinese province.

In fact our wonderful Mr. Frisbee sums up the psychology of @ChopleyIOM and his cronies. Put the subtitiles on lefties, if you cannot bear the truth.

I think he will love this too, as will his pal Mr. CDunt

Is somebody keeping track of the point scoring?
Not really, although chopley is thrashing us all about 161-23 in terms of posting other peoples' social media material thus far.

Well hopefully when Liebore win the next GE, I will already have died of boredom, which seems like a better fate to endure than
having to listen to ChopleyIOMEU being a smug cunt on this forum every day for the next 5 years.....

At least I will get my username in green letters before that happens....

Details are leaking of Truss's proposed energy price plan and..... it's not looking good.

Remember, Labour's plan was to windfall tax the energy companies and give the money to the population. It was a pretty blunt instrument as it handed cash over to everyone, irrespective of wealth, but it did at least ensure that no one would pay more for their energy for the next six months, and it took excessive profits away from the privatised energy companies that are making out like bandits.

Truss's plan is shaping up to be a massive government loan TO THE ENERGY COMPANIES, which is then paid back BY THE POPULATION over the next ten years or more. (And rumours abound that her plan only covers the next four months, instead of six, and last time I checked it can still be pretty cold in January and February.)

So in essence, the energy companies get given tens of billions pounds of government (taxpayer!) money as a bribe to keep bills fixed in the short term, and then in the medium to long term, everyone in the UK has to pay higher energy bills for a decade or more to pay the bribe back to the government. All those billions the energy companies are making in massive profits and shareholder dividends? They get to keep the lot.

Also, Truss's measure will be inflationary, which means more interest rate rises, which means more misery for millions of people already struggling to get by, and also means more profits for the banks because they hold government debt and the higher interest rates are, the more profits they make on that debt.

So Truss has come out of the gates swinging there. Still, at least she's telling everyone who she is and who she's going to govern for.

Also, no suggestion there will be any help for businesses. At this point all we can hope for is that the leaks are wrong.

What does it matter what sort of mess she creates for in the future.

After all according to you your beloved labour will win the next election and they are so great they will fix any mess created by this government.

'Beloved Labour' - not exactly a ringing endorsement from me earlier this month.

There are many other examples of me being rather lukewarm on Labour in its current incarnation, it took me about three minutes to find those.

I think they'd be better than the Tories. I don't think they're great. I much preferred Corbyn's version of the party, although I also accept he wasn't going to win a general election.

I wonder why that was! - you're mad to be honest. You support a marxist idiot yet accept he would never win for being just that. No wonder you're here every day blowing off your frustrations. I think you need to revise your expectations and stop wasting time wondering why the runner with his feet tied together never wins the race. It's simple, really it is mate.

You're sounding like the ManUre supporters always whingeing on sports radio call-ins bemoaning the fact they can't win any more, harking back to the old glory days while blaming everybody and everything for their demise

Look mate, let me remind you:

2010 election - your side LOST
2015 election - your side LOST
2016 Brexit Ref. - your side LOST
2017 election - your side LOST
2019 election - your side LOST

I think you need to face up to reality that your brand of 1970's socialism and bearded trots went out of fashion half a century ago - for good reason.

WE WILL RISE AGAIN. And the country will be as proud, firm and erect as this magnificent marrow.

The problem in 2019 was Corbyn himself with large chunks of the electorate, Labour's policies actually polled very well. Starmer was supposed to be a continuation of those policies but with an electable (if rather dull) face, hence the annoyance on the left of the party that he's ditched so many of those commitments.

Remember we're in a world now where over half of Tory voters want to see the energy companies back in public hands.

Anyway, let's see how things turn out in 2024 once 'The Human Hand Grenade' Truss has been at the helm for a couple of years. (Assuming she lasts that long, and TBH I'd put the odds of that at about 50/50.)
