and the apple stops playing slots again.

so heres my story. a couple of months ago i stopped playing slots and restricted myself to a few micro (20ish) deposits over a course of a month. The reason i stopped playing is i couldnt win anything no matter what, so i figured im just chasing the carrot that doesnt actually exist (for all but the chosen few, i suppose).

Theapple in the slotland.

Chapter 1 - 32 red, all 7,5 mins of it.

So, today i decided to give it a go at 2 different casinos (first deposit at 32 red, and another one at guts where i still deposit from time to time). I know its all about variance and all, and im not gonna dispute that. What i also know is that variance is almost always on casinos side, not mine :p

My 32red play was quite... interesting. started with 20+32 bonus, so had $52 to play with. Also, some really nice chat rep welcomed me and explained how 1st deposit bonus has low wagering of just .. 30x, so ill have to wager $960 with my $52 to be able to cashout. I was like wtf i can barely wager 200 with 50 much less 1k but hey lets give it a try. Speaking of low wagering reqs, what happened in past few years that made 30x wagering be considered low nowadays anyways?? :p

So, there i started my 32red mini adventure, being fully aware ill get out as a winner as long as i manage to wager 100 with my 52. But 7,5 mins later, i failed in my noble quest to wager $100 (almost there though, short just a few $'s).

So a couple of mins later, while i was still looking at TS2 slot trying to figure out curses that are not that harsh, but would still be mean to some extent, chat rep pms me and offers me 10 free spins @ Secret santa. That makes it 10x$0,5 = $5 in free spins.

So theapple is a bit happier now, hoping to win at least double that amount and have a tenner or so to try my luck at some other slot. But no, it wasnt to be. I ended up winning $2,28 from $5 free spins. And then, a bit sad, but still gamble hungry, left to check whats up at Guts now, and are there any promos going on atm.

Chapter 2 - Guts

After leaving 32red, i deposited 20 at guts, just to find out i cant claim free spins before tomorrow morning. Oh well, i still had 20 to play. The best part of it, its bonus free, so if i hit something decent i can take cash and run away.

I chose mg immortal romance slot, just a few spins hoping to win at least a tenner more before playing something else. And after a few mins, i was still there! with $24 (no less than $4 more than i started with!, lol) i decided to play one of lower varience netent slots, starburst.

And boy what a choice it was. In total i had ~100 spins, out of those maybe 90 were dead spins, once i got a whooping 7x my bet, the rest was anything between 0,5 and 4 my bet size.

so some 5 or so mins later, i contacted a live chat guy asking him for my rtp for that (starburst) session, and to disable that damned slot for my account, but all he told me it was 'pretty bad' and credited my account with 5 euros with just 1x wagering as a consolidation prize (for playing starburst was it?, maybe its that bad nowadays that they gotta pay people to play starburst lol).
Never got my rtp for those 100ish spins but im sure it couldnt be higher than 20%. Either way, i still had 5 euros to win as much as possible with it. 2nd time today, i thought it cant be as bad as it was at 32red.

In the end, it wasnt that bad, as i managed to wager... 6,08 euros with those 5, which brought my balance to amazing 1,08 euros. So it wasnt as bad as on 32red, it was worse.

so at the end of the day, i believe i managed to wager 90 with 50, 7 with 5 and as a cheery on top, 6 with 5 all playing on micro stakes. So i was left wondering how on earth do you guys manage to wager 30,40 or 60x wagering requirements? And im most likely done with playing slots alltogether, ill limit myself to just one, and just one, deposit at one of above mentioned casinos per month, for fun, and thats it.

To some extent, im grateful that my run was so short and unsuccessful because it helped me remember why i stopped playing at the first place. Sure it wasnt pretty, but it totally killed my desire to play slots again, and thats great isnt it

still it left me wondering why do you guys even take those 30+ wagering req bonuses, and how often you manage to complete it?

Sincerely,
Theapple

The 'bigjohn' thinks your conclusion and remedy are sound and reasonable. BTW, sound and reasonable thinking are cryptonite to slot purveyors. :D

I take them for the extra play-time and the challenge of meeting the WR with a profit.
I used to average about a 50% success rate back in the days when I was a "bonus hunter".

IMHO, you're playing the wrong games. Immortal Romance and TS2 are high variance - I have had very very few really decent results from either.
If you are going to play with small deposits like you mentioned, you need to play medium variance slots with low bets, quit as soon as you are ahead and switch to a different game.

yea i realize those 2 (or one, they are basically clones) are considered semi-high variance slots but im not sure how else would you complete your wagering if you only play low variance slots? Maybe im doing it wrong but i believe you need some big hits @ high variance slots to even have a shot at making wagering reqs? I mean, even if you only play super low variance slots, in most cases house edge will eat you long before ur done playing ur wagering reqs, no? Havent played IR that much, but i did play TS2 for a looong time and to some extent that slot reminds me a lot of book of ra, with a bit lower variance, but its still capable of monster hits quite often. or it used to be :p

Not to mention i busted my miniroll on guts playing supposedly low variance starburst, on microstakes. My worst run on book of ra (old one, land based) had less dead spins :D

speaking of bonuses with huge wagering reqs, i was never fan of those and back when i still played for 'real' money i rarely accepted any bonuses, simply because i dont feel they are worth it. Turning point was once i took 200% deposit offer on $100, so had $300 to play with. With 40x wagering, so had to wager 8k..'only' or so they said.
In no time, after like $20 spent i was up to $700, and maybe 30 mins later i had more than $2k balance. Long story short, i busted without being able to complete my wagering req :p was that my money, and not tied to any bonus with huge wagering, id just take 3k and run away with it, thats why i really hate huge wagering bonuses.

and while we are at it, i also dont like how current wagering req bonuses are set up. Its always the same, fixed wagering multiplier, regardless if you chose to deposit 40 or 400. Shouldnt those be a bit more flexible instead?

Wagering reqs could be made less of a fixed amount, and should depend more on your previous casino history, or 1st deposit amounts, etc. I wont deposit 100 if i know ill have to wager 149k with it, regardless of how big bonus xx casino might offer to me.

Casinos say wagering (huge ones at that too) req are there to stop bonus abusers. Maybe it really does stop some abusers, but today i ended up depositing less on 32red because if i deposited 40 instead of 20 id only have extra 32 on top of my deposit, but would end up with another 1k to wager.

sure they managed to drive bonus abusers away, but they also made people like me simply refuse bonuses at the first place. or stop playing online slots alltogether.

I know people used to talk about rival casinos having crazy wagering reqs (true, some of those were just epic), but in the reality most other casinos arent that far away either. Not sure how did we get to this point where casino offering 30-40x wagering is considered 'low' wagering reqs? Heck when i used my free xmas bucks on europa casino their chat rep pmed me offering me super bonus with amazing, supercrazy x25 wagering (when i said i dont want it, they told me why not its one of the lowest wagering amongst playtech casinos). And apparentl

But to me it doesnt make such a huge difference if some 'legit' casino offers me a bonus with 30-60x reqs or rival with 999x, because most people wont complete wagering on either one, so might as well make it 99999x instead.

also, online casinos are supposed to be better than land based casinos, when it comes to bonuses. Lets face it, online casinos are nothing like land based ones, when it comes to, well just about anything. And yet again, there are a few, smaller land based casinos i sometimes play at, that offer free bonuses to semi-regular customers. And almost always bonuses come with just 1x wagering (as in u cant just take the money and run away with it :p), so no idea how did we end up at this point , where 30x wagering in online casino is considered as a good deal

long story short, we have people playing at casinos where cashing out takes days, weeks and sometimes months. people playing at casinos with 60x wagering, casinos that have max cashout of like 3k a month, and yet offer highroller bonus til like 10k? Theres also tons of casinos that limit jackpot wins to 10k per month (or 3k?), etc etc. What i was wondering is why all those people dont just go to land based casino where cashing out takes minutes, where they give you free drinks, free money from time to time and dont put a limit on how much you can win? Heck i think ive read about online casino where you can only cashout 10x ur latest deposit, and im sure people still play there.

end rant

edit: i also made a new years resolution, like just now.

im gonna stop gambling. i have decided to stop playing casinos, because i dont like gambling anymore. Instead of that, I'll play poker for living.

Just a couple of corrections before you leave...
IR and TS2 are NOT clones. Very very similar games, Yes. Exactly the same, No.
And I did NOT say play low variance slots - I said medium variance; the sort of slots where getting a bet x50 to x100 win is not so rare. With luck and a following wind, you only need to get 1 or 2 of those early-ish in your session to put you ahead - then you move on.

Anyway - good luck at the Poker Tables!
