What is this and how/why does it increase?

I notice mine is still 1 whereas someone else who has much less posts, has been thanked less, and given thanks less can have a higher rep power than me. Why? What does it mean? Is it meaningless?

Thank you for your time :)

Someone may have "given" them rep points...If someone has say, 10 rep points they can gift that many to you for a post they think is worthy, etc. I have 37 rep points and I just gifted them to you ;)
Happy Easter!

I've just noticed the button at the bottom of posts "Add to this user's reputation..."

If I added to yours, would mine go to 0? I realize it's all irrelevant, I'm just trying to understand the system.

EDIT - I used it there and sort of get it now. Sort of.

Okay, had to dig back for these, but they should answer your questions...

I think rep power is based on several things, for example how long you have been a member, how many "thanks" you have, how many posts you have written etc. So a person who has been a member for some years, will probably have a higher rep power than a new member. But a newer "active" member will probably at some point get a higher rep power than an inactive "older" member.

Rep power is based on rep points. You will recieve +5 if a member "thanks" you, and you will recieve +5 if a member "adds to your reputation". You will recieve +1 rep power per 100( or 200?) rep points.

Maybe....I think...

Ok, I read through the Rep power information there and now I understand.

Thanks for the help :)

EDIT: Hmmm.. I just noticed a big jump in mine. I'm now "A jewel in the rough..."

I knew that anyway ;)

Hi all,

I've been up and about for the past few days so I couldn't get to this. Here is an updated page in the FAQ that covers most of your questions about reputation points:

If you have any more Qs. please don't hesitate to ask. :D
