After looking at some of the recent slots and not being 100% impressed, I thought of this idea..... What about a slot with a real 'skill' factor during the bonus round that could be fun as well..

? {No - this is not my site, just one of the first ones I found it at on the web searching Yahoo}

How about something a bit more like that for a bonus round? haha - It's fun, I could play for hours. PLUS - you actually have to hit the penguin perfectly for a better score (better win for a slot).

It just seems like this would be Soooooooo easy for a casino to create and nobody is doing anything! The Hulk is the closest that I have seen, but I don't think that is really skill-based. Just luck of the draw.

Let's get some REAL fun in these slots! Check out Flash-Stuff on the web, casinos, and get yourself some real ideas.

What do you think?

Around The World on Crypto has a skill-based bonus round of sorts. You have to use the arrow keys/mouse to guide a balloon (from memory) over a landscape and capture stuff. I agree more skill-based bonuses would be good though. The UK fruities at 32red etc have an element of this.

That would be cool KW. As an aside, there was slot in a B&M where you had to jump your lemmings off a cliff, bounce off a walrus, hope not to get picked off by a killer whale, then land in a money cave. No skill, but a fun feature. In a similar theme the player could choose 'skill' and have to kill lemmings for money, or be a lemming and hope for the best :D
ahh here's a 'movie' of the slot

Yep, stuff like that is incredible! I just would like to see something like these flash games integrated into slots. It would make the slots so much more fun. I'm tired of 'picking 3 of 5' and 'picking a free spin' and all that crap. Give us something with a little creativity!

Take a lesson from the free SWF games out there, I say, and give us a bonus round that isn't static.

while i totally agree that true skill elements would be a great addition to slots i can honestly say i doubt it will ever really take off, anyone from the UK is bound to know such machines as IT BOXES and a fair few people i know make very good money from these playing true skill games such as Word Up which is like a wordsearch, if your sharp eyed and fast fingered you can kill them.

this will be always bee the arguement agaisnt it from the providers point of view some people will get to good and be making far more than the companies are willing to give :D

That was exactly the point I was going to make, however, they could still make the game profitable even with an element of skill to the bonus round.

They could simply make the rules such that the bonus round ends when the player "screws up" or when they reach a maximum level which should be described in the help page. Then just have the paytable/payline wins configured in such a way that the player would need to get the maximum on the bonus round each and every time in order to achieve the theoretical return of 95% or whatever level the game is set at.

That way, the only way the player could profit is if they are skilled AND lucky, not just skilled. So it would all just boil down to luck, like most other games in existence.

It would be VERY easy for them to create a skill game that still has some set maximums. They only have to pay as much as they want, really, and the paytables are always altered because of bonus games anyway.

I just wish there were better bonus rounds and think they could take a little notice of popular stuff out there.

I wonder if skill elements would mean fundamental changes to the way the slots "engine" works. We seem to be of the common opinion that the win is pre-calculated and delivered probably before the reels settle or the bonus is concluded. Adding an element of skill would mean this couldn't necessarily happen and would require secondary server communications. Might sound like a small thing, but from past experience programming, it could be quite a complex issue.

Might be true.

Hmm...Ok, then. Maybe they should just put some creativity into their bonus rounds instead... Take a look at the popular land-based machines by WMS Gaming and you will see wildly popular slots with awesome bonus rounds.

Try Powerball, for instance, which has several varieties of their bonus rounds and people will play that for hours and hours because of it. Just about every land-based slot kicks online slots butts these days. They need to learn and quit making 90's based slot bonuses. It's getting old to me.

Have any of you guys tried out Playtech's Alien Hunter?

That has a wicked skill bonus where you have to zap 6 aliens in 15 seconds (I think). There are 3 different colours which move at different speeds, The fastest (red) ones are a real bugger to hit, but worth more money.
I found it incredibly difficult in fun mode - so never braved it for real

If you're crap at it like me you could actually win zilch, which like you've said, made me wonder how they achieve the target % return...
