New B&M Career started

I haven't been to Biloxi since January. The destruction was incredible, but they do appreciate the continued business. Hopefully I'll get up there in the next couple months. But first I need to get out to Reno & Lake Tahoe; I'll probably do that just before Thanksgiving.

Darem,

I went to Biloxi 2 days after Katrina hit. I raised money from friends and strangers and loaded a SWV with goods and left home with 2 friends at 7:52 in the morning. I have been to Biloxi atleast 50 times in the past 10 years. I know the place like the back of my hands. We stayed in that SWV 23 hours traveling down and back, a turn a round trip (We me driving to and from no help!). It was completely destroyed. Every hotel on the strip has been wiped out. Every store has been wiped out. The Treasure Bay, President, Copa Casino, Grand Casino are completely wiped out. In fact the Treasure Bay ship was 5 miles down the road (on the other side), When I went down there. Hwy 90 was nearly wiped out. Army troops were everywhere. Money was no good. There was no stores nowhere nothing. If you got gas in Mobile, or Pensicola that was it until you got thru the other side of N.O. No one was coming to rescue you. If you was caught outside after 8 pm. They wrote you a large fine ticket or detained you at a camp until the next morning. It was awful. I saw bodies in the street. Ships blown out of the ocean and landed across the Interstate. No law or order. I tried to visit the local hospital to give them food, water, diapers, and what not. It was heavily guarded with army troops. That turned us around saying this area is under quarantine.

We revisited the area again this past mardi gras and The eastern side of Biloxi is open for business as far as the casinos. People have returned and begun rebuilding. The Highways have been replaced and the Beau Rivage was being rushed to open soon. And they also added the Hard Rock casino. It was supposed to open the very day Katrina stuck. I believe its now open. So You should go. I went and donated $500 to Casino Magic. Believe it or not my wife and I stayed in Mobile and went to both mardi gras party in New Orleans and Mobile that Fat Tuesday

Since I did so well the other day, dropped in at the casino for "coffee" after work, came home with $108 profit. The dang things kept hitting. It is nice to walk out with cash right away.:)

I am envious!

Wish I had a casino I could drop by on the way home from work and pick up a little extra $$$. And a coffee sounds good, too. Glad you are winning!
I will have to wait for the weekend......

Well, er, it can become a habit. Since Ive posted last I have been using the same money to continue playing. I clear about $25 every time I go (because i dont stop when I should).Pays for gas, extras. Its been nice. Today I went for "coffee" (it is really good), and as I cashed out, a guy came up all a twitter and flibberybuster, waving his 312.00 ticket..He had won it with his last .80 on Cleopatra. He was so excited. I had to walk by a set of these games on the way out. Hmmmm why not. Popped in $10, hit 4 pyramids on the second .20 cent spin. I was so excited! After all the free spins I only was up $10. Won zip on the free's. Dang. Oh well, at least I got to see the pyramids. Wish I would have seen more of Cleo after that!:)(and the extra $10 was nice!)

About Biloxi

I've been to Biloxi twice since Katrina. If you're going to gamble and mostly stay around the casinos, there is no problem. The area is nowhere near where it was pre-hurricane, but they are doing the best that they can.

I stayed at the Isle of Capri just a couple of weeks ago, and had a great time! Nice restaurants, the buffet was great and the room was fine.

The Grand was great too...And the Beau Rivage looked better than any of them, although I didn't go inside.

There are two or three others now open. Many businesses along I-10 are open, and a few around the casinos are too. If you go into town, there are lots of restaurants, grocery stores, ect...Life goes on. Again, it's not what it was, but for a gambler, it was just fine.

The place that is doing the worst for obvious reasons is the area along the coast. I truly think that it will take ten or more years to approach what it was before Katrina. If you count the oak trees, many more than that. Keep in mind that I have no idea of what I am talking about. Perhaps it will take half that long or better...I don't know, but like I said, I was there six months ago and just a few weeks ago again. Plenty of progress, but the devistation is hard to imagine and incredibly hard to recover from.

I think that the best thing that you can do for the area is to visit and spend money. They most certianly need it!

I've been receiving mailers from Island View in ... is it Gulfport? It looks very nice. That's where I'd like to stay when we get down Biloxi way again. We're still spending our B&M money in Tunica because we've got comps built up there and receive such good offers. But the Biloxi area would be nice for another off season trip (we're not into beach and ocean vacation things). I'm so glad to see they're rebuilding, but, as KMartin says, it's going to be quite awhile before they fully recover.

frufru: enjoying reading about your jaunts to the local B&M. I wish we had a casino nearby.

Thanks mousy. I am not playing online anymore so I want to keep playing somehow..
We have a lot of recognized indian nations in our state, some side by side in the same area, and, they are all building Casinos. These nations are right next to major metro areas so they are easy to access.
I just heard there was another piece of property purchased for another mega indian casino..still looking for some funding apparently to do the actualy building, they will find it , they always do. This one is just a hop skip and a jump from the largest city in our state.
Today I am driving 3 hours to the largest of the Casinos, Ive been looking forward to this for a long time. R O A D T R I P!!!!!! Im taking $100, curious to see how the machines differ in payout from the one I usually go to.:)

Wheel of Fortune

Good for you Fru Fru! I love wheel of fortune. When I stay at the trop, that is how I wake up in the morning. I get my coffee early when noone is around and play that game until Im bored or unless the let it ride tables are under $10 hand!

Im so glad you got your fix and won too!!

Well, it was only an 1hr away...I forgot the one further up the road was the 3hr trip! $100 allowed me to play all day long 1030a-430p and I was introduced to some of the new digital display games. Didnt like em. The only time I was winning was in the Am. I played Cleopatra, hit pyramids and retriggered during the spins. Only made $25 off of it though because the spins were not paying much. Hmmm . You have to bet high to get a payback. By 12n all the machines were like, shut off! Lots of frustrated faces, no one was winning! This Casino is amazing, just like a smaller nice las vegas hotel but we paid for it with low returns. I will stick to my Casino, cozier with higher payout, the coffee is better, food prices lower and service better. This one was just for the experience. (Glad I didnt play wheel there, I would have been done by 12n!:)

I hear "large Indian casino" in a state with lots of them, and I think of Pechanga in California, in between LA and San Diego? I went up there with a buddy, just do check it out and gawk. That place is an f'in barn. I made a joke walking in that it felt like we were entering a shopping mall instead of a casino. I was wrong, it was bigger. We hopped around between different table games, which was itself exhausting, because there were like 8 different areas for them.

I liked that it was big and (at the time of day) uncrowded, but their blackjack games didn't offer surrender, and it's a longer drive away than some other stores. Plus, they took one or two hundred bucks from me really quickly.

I think you got us there, that one sounds huge!! The one I went to is the Tulalip Casino in Washington State. Very, very elegant but....no payee when the crowds come. In regards to Pechanga, I dont think I would like to go to a Casino where you would need roller skates to get around.!! (or skooters...) lol. Well, maybe I would go just to look..and maybe play one game....or maybe one more game....:). The Muckelshoot Casino is the one I go to all the time, near Tacoma and Seattle. Hear I come next week my precious....:D lol

Went for coffee again, ouchee boo boo. Maybe Ill go again next month but yesterday was a downer, no hits no fun! See, we worry about onlines controlling and manipulating machines, poor B&M patrons get it all the time! Thaaaaats gambling!:)

Hey! I went to Tulalip one time when I was in Seattle over the weekend for work and had time to kill! It seemed like a pretty good shop. The blackjack dealer was a little bossy though.

However, you could still fit several Tulalips inside Pechanga :)

Native American casino trip

I don't know how you play all day on $100 at the Native American casinos, mine was gone in half an hour. We will probably go to Biloxi in January,
I have been lucky there right after New Year's in previous years.
I did get some money from the great state of Florida on a $2 Monopoly ruboff, the new Christmas gift one, I won $1000, and had to go to a redemption center over an hour away to get the money. Funny thing, when there weren't any machines around to put the money back in the money actually came home with me and is residing in my bank account at this point in time! I don't play the scratch offs too often, they don't pay, but I got three at Publix when I went for groceries just on a whim. :D

The Seminoles always take my money pretty quickly, which is not fun after the hassle of driving over there in S Florida traffic. Slots are coming a little closer (to the Broward County tracks and frontons) this month. But I'm sure they'll be just as tight.

I'll be taking my gambling money to Reno & Lake Tahoe in two weeks, then maybe Biloxi in December or January.

No way! This place Pechanga I gotta see!:) Bossy boss, ha ha ha, ive seen that before! In regards to playing all day, if I hadnt of won in the am I would have been outta there by 12n. I was lucky then, got bad in the afternoon on low bets.
Soflat, Have fun in Reno!
Darem1,.I havent tried monopoly yet (more than 4 spins that is) good win, nice to be able to take home $1000 - Id be a happy girl!
Oh, just noticed you said rub off! Wow, that is a win, ive havent done rub offs for awhile, I like em too much! :)
