Anyone any experience of this? Have not used my Neteller since last April, just logged in and found it had been (all-but) emptied (in July last year) by way of a $1,800 + fees p2p transfer to an @rambler.ru email.

It seems they've since changed their login procedure, as they asked me various extra security things on login.

Called and it's being investigated.

with all do respect ; and i might not know what the norm for out of the USA is on this , but is that a lot of money to sit around in a ewallet for that long ?? [sincere question]

$1800? Not much. $18k yes, but $1800 is chump change really.

Although I do take the point to the extent re the security of online wallets, it's not a huge amount.

Chump change

 Chill it Nifty. Just because it would be a big deal for you (and me) doesn't mean the same is true for everyone. One man's pocket change is another man's ticket to dinner and all that.

I'm not saying I don't care, but I have had significantly more money in that in a wide variety of gambling-related merchants, so it's only 'not bad' in that context.

Although I'm re-evaluating the wisdom of that now.

Anyway, I see that as a VIP I have a '100% fraud guarantee'.

So I'm looking forward to getting the money back and my account opened fairly swiftly.

Being in Canada, I haven't been able to use Neteller for quite awhile, but I do use other ewallets. To be honest, I'm a little nervous about leaving more than a couple hundred bucks in any of them for any amount of time after hearing about other people's accounts being hacked and drained. KK had an account emptied, I can't remember if it was Neteller or Moneybookers though.

And I wish I had some chump change like that too! ;)

Sounds wrong "as a vip i have a 100% fraud guarantee" like your getting a case of fraud because you are vip ( i.e have money thats worth the effort)
Better wording would be 100 % anti-fraud guarantee. : )
Did you take that statement directly from their site or i you say it like that?
(minor details yes, i know)
Anyway good luck on getting your money back: i would give it my all, regardless what amount.

Has Neteller got back to you yet, they are normally pretty quick on any fraud enquiries.

It was MoneyBookers: https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/moneybookers-account-hacked-and-emptied.43986/

My account was hacked on May-12th last year - I reported it within a few hours, but I'm STILL waiting to see if I will get my money back...
(Now in the hands of the Financial Ombudsman Service for about the last 5 months...)

Hopefully thelawnet's case will be sorted MUCH quicker by Neteller - IMO they are a much more professional operation than MB.

She called me just now (Yorkshire accent, which is better than someone in India as far as I am concerned), and my account has had the money refunded + reopened.

Neteller themselves are careless about this. Some GENUINE emails about the various promotions, such as the cashbacks, require you to click on a link in order to register for the promotion. Try doing it the safe way by logging into your Neteller account, and it is a chore to even find how to register, let alone register. They clearly want it done via the email link, not independently via your Neteller account page. This behaviour can't have gone unnoticed by scammers, who will either just invent a Neteller promotion, or try to be first to send out emails so that participants expecting the registration link from Neteller get fooled into registering with the scammer instead. The final step would be to ask for a full set of details in order to register for the promotion, and since the user knows this is how Neteller manage registrations, they may mutter under their breath about the process being more complicated this time, but will probably still do it having got that far.

Neteller should change this, and retrain it's users that they NEVER expect anyone to use an email link to access registration for a promotion, and genuine emails should direct users to log in to Neteller and look to the right, and click to register there. They should also make sure the registration is displayed on initial login, rather than the user having to try all sorts of tabs in order to find a means to register without going via the email.

Neteller could then have a rule, "if you are asked to click an email link to register for a Neteller promotion, don't, it's a scam"
