I just wanted to take a pause from writing the awards and catching up from the holidays to say that I'm really looking forward to the Meister Meeting coming up in just a matter of days (12!)

I think by that time we'll all need a beer or three

I'm really hoping that those who have never ventured to the annual Meister Meeting will make an effort to come - especially those in the UK. It's only from 5-8 pm, but during those brief hours you can make some really good friends, and get to know your forum buddies (and nemeses) better.

Hope to see many of you there

Just in case anyone missed this:

Where: Waxy O'Conners
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

14 - 16 Rupert Street
Leicester Square
London
W1D 6DD

(Waxy O'Connor's is between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square)

When: Tuesday 24 January 2012 from 5PM to 8PM

It's in the Dargle Bar which is all the way downstairs - it's a really cool place.

We have two Irish musicians laid on, and they start at six. They are from "Biblecode Sundays" - an Irish pub band. There will be some snacks as well so you won't starve or have to drink on an empty stomach. It's going to be a long night for some of us :D

And yes, this is for all members of the forum who can make it.

may be one day the meister meeting came to portugal
lol
It would need ICEi to come to Portugal.

It would be better to persuade Bryan to arrange local Meister meetings during other events that he attends. Even if this doesn't cover Portugal, it may at least be somewhere closer than London. If ICEi moved to Birmingham, I would expect the Meister meeting to move there as well. Birmingham actually has better facilities available, and it is cheaper to run large events there, and cheaper to attend. Unlike Earl's Court, the NEC is not right in the middle of the city, so the after hours entertainment is not so easy to access.

Many large events are now choosing the Birmingham NEC as their venue, rather than London. If ICEi outgrows Earls Court, they may look outside London for a venue.

The UK in January is not all that warm, so it wouldn't be surprising to find ICEi move south into somewhere like Spain, even Portugal, if the right facilities at the right price could be found, and it was well connected for transport. London has Heathrow, and this makes it particularly attractive for international events. Birmingham would add a domestic leg to the journey for many attendees, as they would not necessarily be able to fly straight into Birmingham airport from their home location.

portugal in a small country you have here (not so hot for this time of the year) but palces without any ice, and otheres fully but fully of ice...

but UK residents, when visiting portugal, (we have cold) they are here in winter dressed with the same clothes that we are in the summer....
UK is so cold that, when some of there visit here, for them its "hot" here...

and for those that dont met this, you have all kind of transports here (including low coast flyes)

I really wanted to be there, but I arrive 2 days too late in London :( I am going to the LAC from the 26-29th, really looking forward to it. I live relatively close to the UK, in the Netherlands but never been there :)

Looking at the long range weather forecast, you may well find that ICE comes to Portugal later in the month:D

I was not thinking of the high ground;)

The charts suggest (although with considerable uncertainty at present) that the "Siberian High" is going to expand westwards to cover much of Europe and the UK by the end of the month, with the milder westerlies being pushed well to the north of Norway, with cold Easterlies setting in. Although late in the season, it still offers the possibilty of an extended spell of cold or very cold weather, and it will come as a shock after such a mild start.

I recall other winters where we had to wait until February for the cold weather to set in, but have ended up being considered "severe winters" overall because of an extended freeze when it finally came.

There will be more certainty in a few days, and it really does look like Bryan will miss the snow at home because he will be at ICEi and the LAC. Decent snow is rare in London because of the urban heat sources, so he will probably not see the best of any coming to the East of the UK either. It could even be "the wrong type of snow", so there may be no trains running in and out of London, and long delays at Heathrow. If as bad as last year, no London buses either. I can't figure out how heavy snow managed to shut down the UNDERGROUND service though:confused:, it's always hot down those tunnels, whatever the weather.

I enjoyed the read, i liked the "photographic evidence" too :D
Thanks for the hard work once again, although it seems as it has it's pleasurable sides too..

And rightly so!
However, one could seriously doubt your integrity when reading this:
..and with things like Egg and Bacon ice cream and snail porridge, you can't go wrong..

LOL!

Jokes aside, keep up the good work!

I had a fantastic time! I was really bummed up last year when I booked my flights wrong and was not able to attend. There were so many great people to mingle with which made the evening go way fast :( I do have a few pics I will allow you to snag off my FB and add them here :)

As the evening wore on, we wore it well. We meandered to O'Neills, which I was informed that we go there every year - which could be true. They had a live band, which was surprising for a Tuesday night. And when O'Neills turned up the "go home" lights, we wandered down to the Casino at the Empire, where I had one of the most spellbinding and unforgettable conversations in my life. Unfortunately, the topic was nothing you'd want to hear in this newsletter.

Thank goodness I was wise enough to call it a night only 10 mins into the casino of course being jet legged helped(not mentioning the shots of tequila and sake)
