Gamstop - Many Problems After Exclusion Ends

Long story short - officially "quit" in March as getting bored with online slots. Gamstopped for 6 months in May due to time issues (not money problems) SE ended in October.

I don't have the space to regale you all with the full horror of trying to get back into the game after the Gamstop time out, but here is a very distilled summary of the casino paranoia:

1. Most Casinos insisting I'm still SE'd and point blank refusing access

2. New casinos (Nektan) refusing sign ups based on "previously Gamstopped" flag

3. Existing accounts that don't participate in Gamstop (Betable) barring even after SE ended - email received "...we are not signed up to Gamstop but we received some information you are self excluded, so you are banned..." (paraphrased). No loss as their sites are slow as a slug anyway.

In short, the only sites to have handled things correctly have been LVBet and Smarkets (excluded during SE, signed back in again no problem after SE finished).

I can totally recommend Gamstop as a means to completely abstain from online, but wanted to get the message out that post-SE is far from plain sailing, for those contemplating a fairly short break rather than a lifetime change....

You have informed Gamstop that you want your SE to end rather than just the casinos haven't you?

Can I ask...what questions did Gamstop ask you when you were asking for exclusion period to end? Thanks in advance

Are you happy to resume gambling, are you aware of the RG controls to help you, and did you find SE'ing via Gamstop to be positive and beneficial

Oh yes and i got the email confirmation.

Fortunately I only need 2-3 decent sites to have the majority of slot providers covered, so it's not a huge issue personally.

I still can't access any casinos as Gamstop have continued to enforce my exclusion, despite me telling them they are in breach of GDPR regulations by continuing to hold my data despite it lapsing back in October. By failing to remove the data per my wishes they are 'likely to result in a high risk of adversely affecting individuals’ rights and freedoms’, resulting in a breach with the ICO. They have one last chance to rectify the situation before I raise it as a concern with the ICO, which may get their processor and controller in trouble.

I only took a 6 month break following a big win and wanted time out to spend the money on other things!

Oh great took 6 months myself which isn't up till the 3rd of may I find it a bit strange that we haven't heard this from other players.
Maybe someone who has also been thru the process could tell us how they got on after their sentence was up..

Is it Gamstop or (more likely) the casinos not implementing it properly?

I had to go through investigations and manual account interventions by 2 separate casinos because their software did not "take" the lifting of Gamstop.

And I was initially treated very suspiciously like I was trying to blag my way around a self exclusion.

Sorry for late reply. I play at second tier casinos: Royalslots, Nektan, Jumpman etc.
How’s nektan treated you? A few years back I won a fortune from them from tiny deposits and ND free spins, I even had the winnings personally bank transferred within the hour after a phone call.
Is only after the mega bad rap they get I ceased playing at any of there brands.

Sounds like the casinos either aren't well versed in the post Gamstop process, it's broken or they're taking it upon themselves to tag you as an ongoing problem gambler because of your having previously been excluded through Gamstop & they're turning your business away on that? Maybe like being added to a credit blacklist by some card issuers/banks (that they would deny all knowledge of) after a bankrupcy or IVA has been discharged & it's fallen off your credit file?

Hope you get it figured out.

Once your tagged as having a problem even if you don’t it never ends... happened to me by a casino mistake in 2015 ish.. still feeling the backlash today, only help from certain reps made it possible for me to deposit and play and withdraw and the good sites.
I’ve never had a RG issue, provide SOW no problems, wasn’t enough for some casinos though.
Be very careful when or if you mention Gamstop or a gambling problem.

Having the exact same problem. Go to log onto PokerStars after my SE with Gamstop has ended and no luck, try skybet and no luck etc. So contact Gamstop who say I need to send them a photo of myself holding my ID before they can confirm if my SE can be removed.

Kind of contradicts what they say on their website that the SE period ends automatically and you will need to contact them to extend it. So clearly doesn’t end by itself as stuggling to get it lifted even though my 6 months has passed last week.

It should be that after the 6 months they stop reporting that my SE exists so I can access gambling sites again but it’s far from working correctly.

To make if worse bet 365 closed my acc permanently as they said I previously took a time out and now the Gamstop SE so they’ve closed my acc through their mananemenr reviews and ifs done for responsible gaming reasons.

It doesn't say that at all, in fact it clearly states the opposite?

Once the minimum duration period has elapsed the self-exclusion will remain in force until you have returned to GAMSTOP to ask for it to be removed and gone through the relevant process.

Two points here.

1. Some of the casino operators in the UK seem to have developed a one hit investigation tool. Example, Unibet have a team set up to check against the Gamstop register for new players and will suspend accounts if only a couple of details match it until they are satisfied. The casinos also will take a Gamstop registration as a long term exclusion. Not sure how you get round that.

2. Gamstop in itself is the easiest thing to get round ever. The fact it's 4 or 5 details out of 5 that need to match means a simple change and your fine. It's got great intentions but it should have went further. 3 out of 5 or more should have been enough to at least stop an account or suspend it pending further info.

You should also be aware that GAMstop will keep your details on file for 7 years even after SE has expired, this is probably my only issue with the system, I have formerly requested they remove my details under GDPR right to be forgotten, but they just quote the t&cs.

All the guff in the press this weekend about being able to alter your details and successfully sign up to new sites... Yes, journalists have been able to do this, as a "theoretical test" (with no intention of actually gambling), but no gambler would. They know right well that their details have to match exactly what they signed up with at verification time, otherwise no withdrawals!

Not true especially with the larger casinos. Once they do their verification on their side and it passes withdrawals are automatically allowed. Perhaps the smaller operators but you can't say all.

Right so that verification would "pass" how exactly? If you can't verify your name and address (which you can't, if it's not accurate), it's not happening.

Date of Birth is one. The overall verification checks age and not the specific date. Gamstop checks for the exact date. So you could have wrong DOB and email address which would throw Gamstop out but allow verification.

Are you saying put your date of birth different when you sign up to a casino? You would not be able to withdraw as they would check against your documents.

But if you're saying put wrong date of birth when you sign up at Gamstop, what's the point of signing up anyway?

Not strictly true, the bigger companies do automated verification on age so they would not pick up a different DOB. This is a potential flaw and has been used according to Gamstop.

Unfortunately that's not true say a punter under exclusion via Gamstop decides to register with a casino as a new customer and they confirm they haven't previously signed up to any sister casinos.
That person gives a completely new email address and also puts a wrong digit on his DOB.
He then starts playing attempts a cash out but gets KYCd and the wrong DOB is picked up punter tells them this was a mistake and withdrew is processed.
3minths down the line punter is still playing and making regular cash outs .
This is exactly what the European broadcasting corporation sorry British Broadcasting Corporation was going on about.
