Your Input Please 20 years of Casinomeister - what are your questions?

How many spam e-mails from casinos/affiliates have you had over the last 20 years? An approx estimate to nearest 1,000 would suffice!!!

I don't have any questions :(
Oh do you drink your beer after podcast?
In all seriousness. Twenty years is a long freaking time. Do you have a job outside of here that helps support the financial side of things? Point blank.......how the heck do you pay for all this!?!
Do you like all of us? Or is there some that just get on your nerves?:oops:

Let me say first congratulations for 20 years of hard work and the accomplishment of being the most well known portal of online gaming. No easy feat in this tough every changing landscape. I remember well when you started up, even though I never participated. There was certainly money to be made for any site piggybacking my play those early crazy days, I hope you got your share. My question is? If your site and your hard work had the ability to be funded by other means 20 years ago, would it be better or worse or even still around today. And would you choose such an independent route if it meant less money, yet still sustainable. It comes down to the question of ethics, how do you balance that for 20 years? A whale of an earner - yet a trail of personal destruction. Have you ever had to intervene? And when is that line drawn in the sand? Is it possible to distance one's self and utter the words "its just BUSINESS" ? Its a question I ask myself every day, yet I know not the answer, as such I enquire. Anyway, good luck on the next 20 !!!

Well - thanks!! loads of questions - most of which I'll be answering in the webcasts for this month. I have loads of material.

Some questions can be answered rather quickly so I'll do so here:

Whats it like being old?

I was hoping my elderly brother would be able to tell me since you have a few more years under your belt than I do. Or am I wrong?

I hear you are entering into a stand alone poker sight and that you are bringing back PKR Poker (3D) my question to you is when will this start up? I think you will have a very big following on this site, i sure hope it's soon as many have been waiting a long time for it.
Wha?? Never heard about that one. Must have me confused with somebody else.

Well, figure about 100 a day - going back about 18 years (there were few if any webmasters/affiliates around when I started). So that's about 657,000 which is managable by hitting delete.

Damn the guy is a lazy fecker. Asks a question then he leaves everyone hanging.
What a host!
I said I'd be answering these in my webcast. :D

Seriously?

Low overhead for the first ten years or so. I paid about $250 a month for my server. And I had a robot who worked for free (Vortran007) I didn't take on any employees until Max came on board in 2007.

I never worked anywhere else while dealing with CM, but had a a couple of careers before Casinomeister. These can be found in Life before the Internet.

Not gambling related so hope its alright.

Have you ever been to Canada? If so when and where have you been? If not, is it your plan?
I've been to Canada loads of time - mostly as a kid/young teenager north of Vancouver Island, and then many times in Toronto and Montreal. :D

Approximately how many members here have you met in person, a rough estimate?
A couple of hundred :D

Again - please keep the questions coming. I am in the process of creating a series of webcasts to cover these :D

Julie Sidwell(bless her soul) helped me retrieve my winnings but I was thinking t6here is little we can do as a player. It was a time when casinos could do pretty much as they pleased. CM came across as a trade union with the clout to get a fair deal for us. Spearheaded by Bryan, Jetset, Simmo and our beloved TED aka as spearmaster it gave me confidence in the industry. Sorry guys, I am a bit long in the tooth now and couldnt resist this nostalgia. Well Done CM. It would probably still be the Wild West without this site.

Given that hindsight is always 20/20, do you have any regrets? Things you wish you'd done differently, or sooner, or not at all?

Why was Cryptologic destroyed ....

I'll pitch in on that if I may. My background with Crypto was that they bought WinnerOnline aka WOL 'round about 2001-ish while I was there as the head content writer and forum manager. They basically had no idea what to do with us and since we were making good money they just let it spin on to continue doing so. Except it didn't. Their hands-off management style pretty much turned into neglect and a series of uninspired management appointments -- not to mention no long-term survival plan -- meant WOL was headed for the grave.

So why am I banging on about WOL? Because from what I could tell it was fairly indicative of Crypto as a whole. From my one meeting with senior management and what I heard come down the grapevine basically they considered themselves an island, that they could do what they wanted exactly how they wanted and the rest of the industry would just adapt to them. That may have been a swell plan in the early days while they were a very big fish in a very small pond but as the years went by that was certainly not the reality of the industry and their position in it.

History repeated itself a few times over the years as their casino property(s) slowly and steadily fell out of step with the rest of the industry. I locked horns with them a few times in the course of my PAB work and they were as aloof as ever -- lots of promises but in fact refusing to cooperate with anyone on anything -- while they were sliding further and further down the food chain. I'm no business guru but that didn't seem like a great plan.

Also, there was some weird thing with Crypto that some Russian guys were developing their poker product. I had visited the development office and was naturally curious since I had started my working life as a software designer. Strangely everything was "secret", even from the company management. The excuse was that the Russian guys were so brilliant that they couldn't allow anyone to scrutinize their ongoing development. I shrugged that off as a "better you than me" management style and forgot about it. As I understand it the thing wallowed in development for years and eventually I heard that so much cash was "leaking" out of the games themselves that it was becoming a drain on the company's resources. Who knows how true or significant that actually was, I was long gone from the action by that time.
