Why does Microgaming download software have to treat people like idiots

Okay I understand that the players and the house are in perpetual opposition, one trying to beat the other

However I really get tired of all the ways that the Microgaming download software just seems to treat the player as a 'lower being'

Examples
1 - No obvious way of controlling the volume

2 - You have to sit through the software closing down announcement, which in some cases is loud and crass.
It won't let you close the software discreetly in minimised mode

3 - When you close a game, the software offers you a list of games to try. It allows you to switch off this list but only 'for one day'. Why?
If I want to switch off the game suggestion menu permanently why can't I do this

It just feels like the player is being treated as the target, as somehow less than an equal human being.
And especially after a losing session (and yeah ok I've just had one :D ) these things are even more annoying. Surely I'm not alone in wishing that the software was more 'player respectful'

Hey mate, I do agree with regards the game selection screen .. and the opening/closing sound effects lol, I think they can be disabled by clicking options straight after logging in at the bottom and disabling the background sounds... tho maybe I've just not noticed them because I have casinos muted a lot of the time. Try it though. Also the volume is the speaker icon in the top right, its definitely there in the lobby and I think most of the slot games. One click shows a slider with a mute checkbox, or on some screens its just a click to mute/unmute ... could be clearer, for sure.

I really think a lot of these 'annoyances' were developed by someone who watched or heard them only a couple of times.

It's not just Microgaming but all the different softwares are loaded with them.

The dramatic music when you are about to get that third scatter....but don't and the 800 M.P.H. last reel are my personal nominees for the chopping block.

What we lack are the options to customise the experience. Some kind of "advanced mode" for the more confident user is needed, along with a "reset to defaults" safety switch.

In fact, this could be produced by a third party developer as many of these features are controlled by parameters set in the registry.

Also lacking is any real documentation for users. A generic "Viper user manual" would help, but again this is something a third party could produce as MGS seems unwilling to do so.

In this respect, MGS does indeed treat players like idiots, as we are considered incapable of understanding and using such an advanced settings menu or users guide. This is all left to the operators, who produce a standard custom skin for their casino, and then have half a dozen sister sites to cater for different tastes among players. A single user customisable skin would give users even more choice, and cost operators far less, and maybe this is why MGS are not going down this route. Why have only ONE license for a customisable skin when they can get six for six different skins from the same operator.

Now, would players be prepared to PAY for such third party utilities and guides, or would they feel that affiliates should provide them as part of the service, as after all they make money by driving traffic to casinos, and providing free utilities and guides is what they should be doing in return for taking a slice of the profits from players' deposits.

I would be prepared to pay for a facility to customize my overall MGS experience, so that for example if I designed a skin for my Ladbrokes software it would be immediately usable on 32 Red or Fortune lounge etc.
Maybe not enough casual players would be prepared to pay for this. They might feel the software is costing them enough as it is..

Big John makes a fair point that a number of casinos are loaded with annoyances not just Microgaming, but they definitely have the most annoying nag screens and exit routines.
In general MGS of all the main players seem most determined to limit the available choices for players (the most obvious example being the move away from being able to choose line combinations on a slot, and forcing preset 243 line play onto most new releases)

I really think a lot of these 'annoyances' were developed by someone who watched or heard them only a couple of times.

I feel this is certainly true with poker software, it seems the developers don't ever play their own software, pokerstars however is the exception.

It may seem petty - but this one REALLY grinds my gears! :sob:
Not only do I not want to see that screen EVER - but the games is offers are just 3 games chosen at random and are not in any way similar games to the one that I have just been playing (except they are also slots).

If I had the power to change just one thing on MicroGaming software - it would be scrapping this bullsh*t!

I'll look into it;)

I also find it annoying, and sometimes this feature can cause the lobby to crash.

I just noticed, if you click the last button on the toolbar to show the text games list, then click options from the bottom bar, there is a setting "Game Recommendations" which disables these annoying ads... cant believe I didn't notice it before but it made me think of this thread so figured I would come back and share it!

only for a day though, just the same as the tick box.

the one I hate is choosing to display coins or credits, why can't this be a global option instead of having to choose it for every single game? the first thing i do with a game is change it to show credits I just wish i didn't have to do it with every single game.

I agree... What i personally don't get is: MICROGAMING is probably the largest online casino software provider. Why can't they make their download and instant casino state of the art? I get the point that maybe they keep the old casino so that player with slower computers can still enjoy it (and this is very important), but why not offering additionally a modern lobby for players? The software seems really outdated and so does the instant casino.
