...you are banned.

Again, I have to act as a babysitter - and this does not make me a happy camper, nor a gracious host. In fact, I find it hard to believe that some adults need to be babysat.

We have policies in our forum that address membership.

#1 - if you admit to a gambling problem, I will close your account and keep it closed. You won't be allowed back in no matter what. Now I work with the honor system, I don't expect you to come back trying to fly under the radar - I expect you to act like an adult and walk away. Apparently this is too much to ask of a couple of people who treat this as a game. There are 21 members who have "quit gambling". Several of these persons treat this as their private baby-game. Fcat is one of these persons - she "quit gambling" some time ago and keeps coming back. Bye bye once again.

#2 - if you are banned from this forum for any other reason - especially a serious one (habitual flaming, player fraud, etc.,), don't come back. Again, it's the honor system - in time you'll get busted out.

This forum is not your personal playground - deceiving the members and moderators is uncool. And you will be treated as an "uncool" person when you get caught.

The moderators and I are busy people. We try to give members as much freedom as possible to make this a groovy place to be - and a responsible and accountable one at that. Please understand that we are not here to police every thread - to analyze every post. I appreciate the fact that some members alert us to possible member problems (problem gambling for instance), and we will make every effort to act in a fair way.

But please don't expect us to be standing behind your backs watching every move. We are all adults - please behave accordingly with the honor system in mind. Thank you.

Wow....who was Fcat this time? Gotta admit, I've done alot of "skimming" lately, but I didn't pick up on that one at all.

I can't help myself but reply to this because I think IF this were a rule(which I could not find ), this site would have so very few members left. I have read so many complaints here from so many different regular members about their experiences ( daily ). Also, read many, many where people say they are quitting due to various reasons including problematic behavior but still comeback or infact never leave.

Casinomeister should be thankful for ALL us gamblers ( problematic or casual ) because that is what makes this forum what it is.

Now, I can see where becoming upset over fraudulent accounts when banned would be upsetting and understandable but not ever because you are a bad* or good* gambler. Not in a Online Casino Forum.

I BEEN THERE

Perhaps you have misunderstood what I said - I meant if you told me "I have a gambling problem, please close my account," then your account is closed...forever...period.

And if you open another account, I'll lock that one too. We have over 10,000 members - 21 fall into this category.

And it's a policy, it doesn't need to be a written rule. I do this because it's the right thing to do. I am not thankful for those who are destroying their lives because they are out of control gamblers.

Kinda PO's me. Why come back and lie to everyone? You got kicked out because of a reason, don't come back just to put one over on everyone else. Be gone.

Of course, CM, you could look at it another way. This forum is so important to them that they just can't stay away. :D

O.M.G  pina, do you remember what i said awhile back? im freaking over this, hell i like mercy, better than i liked fcat or the other personas she used, i need a drink:oops:....................laurie

I sure do Laurie...effing unreal. You must be psychic, lol. I really liked her too, that's what pisses me off...that she played us like that. Wonder where she came up with the name Maria from? I'm making a coffee, but along your line of thought maybe I'll throw a shot of something in it. Jeezus!

Well, I guess I owe ya one...you were right and I was most definitely wrong. Never dreamed in a million years that was her....I honestly thought Mercy was a newbie who thought like us. Sharp Laurie.....very sharp.

I don't think he is thankful for anyone having a problem IMO. He just gives many of us so much more than just a "place" to go and hang out...there are some terrific information to be found here and he is the one that allows this to be shared..there are some terrific people here to meet..and I do not think he enjoys it one bit when someone comes to him and says they have a problem, he immediatley takes action and banns them for THEIR own good....

He does not go out of his way to entice gamblers, WE have found HIM and thank goodness he was here to be found...for me that is, for I have learned more than I can imagine about many things I would never have found out any other way..this place is more than just a "Gamblers" retreat...it is a WHOLE lot more..

Royallyflushed = babs
Mercy = fcat
and on this note all I can say is that they felt the need to leave "home" (quit gambling) and once you leave it is that much harder to come back..we all know that..sad and a shame that they cannot stay but as I said, Bryan takes care of what is needed to the BENEFIT of us, not detriment...I would never have guessed RoyallyFlushe was babs, and always wondered what happened to Fcat...now we know..

All I can say is THANKS Bryan and the rest of the crew for being here and allowing us to be a part of your family.

I for one was a wayyyyyy out of control gambler spending thousands a week gambling so I have to say this rule should not go for everyone..I couldn't of done it without CM..You have to understand that although you think the forum may hurt some people, it helps so many others..Although I play from time to time, and I mean a couple of hundred every few months, if that, this forum really saved me from losing everything..
You have some people like myself that really want to just enjoy the game without losing everything they have and need to learn to pace themselves
(which the forum taught me how to do) and then there are the people that really need some to stop gambling altogether because they did lose everything and still want to play..
I not once have ever been tempted to play because of this forum, if anything it kept me busy reading, I made friends, and it turned me away from playing because of all the negatives that come out of gambling..A gambler knows all the ins and outs of gambling, they don't need CM to gamble..
I think people come back under different name because they depend on the forum for one reason or another..I put myself in their shoes, what if you threw me out because of all the previous threads I posted about my problem and then you read I'm playing 50.00 dollars here and there, if you threw me out I would be tempted to come back under a different name and not because I wanna be a sneak, it would be because I do depend on the forum to still help me and I miss my friends who got me where I am today..
As far as fraudulent accounts, yeah, these people should be banned, but not people with gambling problems, a gambler can go any where online to play, they don't need CM, and I really don't think CM is a problem site for gamblers..

Not to be difficult, but ANY gambling site is a problem for someone who has an "out of control" gambling problem. JMO.

But what this is really about when it comes to users in the "Quit Gambling" group is the fact that these are people who have come to Bryan, admitted to a problem, have decided to quit gambling and have asked him to deactivate their accounts here at the forum. He IS doing the responsible thing by not allowing them back, ever. It is no different than writing to a casino and asking for self-exclusion due to an uncontrollable gambling habit. Once you have taken that step, then that request should be written in stone. As it is, most casinos will impose a six month ban, after which time this will be reviewed, and it is possible for a player to have their account re-opened. I have been fighting for a lifetime exclusion for people like this, and would like to see the casinos follow the lead that Bryan has set.

Bottom line, a gambling addiction is no different from any other ie. alcoholism, drugs, etc. Ask any sober alcoholic or junkie, if they can just give up booze or heroin or whatever for six months....and then just have a taste now and then. If it's uncontrollable, it's uncontrollable, period. Someone doesn't go to AA, with the mindset of just quitting for six months, and then deciding they'll have a drink once in a while. It doesn't work that way.

In this particular instance, Bryan is doing the right thing. Again, JMO.

I understand but she asked to have a leave of absence for a while also a while back for a cooling down period on her gambling at one time too..this was what I was referring too..unbeknown to us, it was due to her chargebacks she took this leave of absence from here..so once you ask to take a leave of absence, I think Bryan is on top of things regardless of the reason.. :)

I strongly disagree and I use me as an example..I wanted to play and enjoy poker without losing all I had and I did learn how to do that..and I use the word "strongly" because if I can do it and I was BAD, anyone can do it, you just have to "want to do it"...I think drugs, alcoholism, or just smoking cigarettes and hard habits to break because the body depends on it and I do agree with you that you can't just stop those habits for 6 months and then have a taste now and again..
And your also right about Bryan not letting them back in after "they" ask to have their accounts deactivated, I was wrong there..if they ask for it then they are admitting that CM hurts them, whereas it helped me..

Bryan, I don't quite understand how these same folks are allowed to keep coming back over and over and over again. This type of thing really needs to be fixed. Fcat now has had around 5 or 6 IIRC different log-in usernames here. Is she registering and logging-in by way of using a proxy server or IP anonymizer each time and this is why it takes so long to catch her at it??

Also when you ban someone are you just simply banning their username here or are you banning their IP Address??

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

Unless a person has a dedicated IP address, it's virtually impossible to ban them permanently without banning innocent bystanders in the process. If you know that certain IP's are definitely a proxy server, you could place them in a ban list, but 9 times out of 10, those anonymous proxies are on a compromised home user's system, and posted everywhere, so it wouldn't really do any good, because those proxies are a dime a dozen. Meaning that they could change proxies at the drop of a hat..

The casinos do it everyday...;) There's got to be a way to fix this problem. We have some damn smart folks in here and I'm sure we all could put our heads together and come up with a solution to this issue if given a little time. It's not quite rocket science ya know.

They aren't allowed to come back, their accounts are just an extension of their deceptive ways.

We have methods of detecting people who slip back in. Banning IPs is not the way to go since like Winbig mentioned, it could block out chunks of people. Flying under the radar really isn't that hard, and it's a frustration of every board administrator - especially boards the size of this one, but it's easy to detect when one looks into these people's accounts.

We have on average 15-20 new members per day. Each one of these accounts are reviewed for spammers and other miscreants. We also have software that detects bots (30-50 per day). These IPs are usually blocked, but sometimes a dolphin gets caught in the tuna net. Just today XOXOXOXO got snagged as a bot :p

Simply put, we are always on the look out for a-holes who like to waste our time with these juvenile games. The thing is we do catch many - you just aren't aware of it since it's not made public that often.

Fcat uses numerous proxy servers. One time it was pretty funny. I was watching her log in (with one of her banned accounts before it was banned), and as she logged in, I would ban that IP. A minute later she'd log in with a different IP. I'd ban that one, and she'd use another. It was rather silly entertainment :p

Oh, life of a webmaster

Another way maybe of fixing this issue would be to simply install a small script or program on the end users client machine at time of registration the same way MG does it by use of (IE: ActiveX or use Java Applets) along with MAC Address ban, IP ban and cookie ban it adds another hoop for banned members to go through.

Without totally derailing the thread, and getting too deeply into it.....you should do some research into addiction. The physiology of it, physical vs. psychological, dopamine levels in the brain, etc. Don't be fooled into thinking that alcohol for example is solely a physical addiction, it's not. Or that gambling is solely psychological, it's not. They are all tied together with the pleasure centres in your brain, and the dopamine levels that are released (the "rush" you get when you gamble, snort a line, shoot up, etc.). They are all both psychological AND physical is the point I'm trying to make.

Anyway, heavy discussion for another thread. I'd actually like to see a whole forum dedicated to responsible gambling, addiction, etc here at CM. It would give us all an opportunity to discuss these things in more detail...and who knows, it may even help a person or two along the way. Maybe I'll run some ideas by him at some point, see what he thinks.
