I see it this way. Trump is a businessman, and his goal is to make Europeans and anyone else buy everything from the US despite higher prices. Most of Europe is already dependent on US energy, except for a few countries that have their own. Weakening Russia has been the main goal of their rivals/enemies for decades.
So what's the point of Ukraine? Zelensky most likely said they can keep hitting Russia's gas stations and oil refineries, which can make many switch to American energy plus prevent further plans like Hungary getting Russia's gas and building their own pipeline to next door countries like Serbia.
Then Trump said cool, you're a good man. Keep buying more weapons from us. Zelensky said, ok, no worries, that's exactly what we need and Europeans have plenty of cash. But don't believe Putin, he's lying. Trump said ok geez, and went to write that babble to infuse them with spirit.
One of his funny phrases from a few days ago:
I don't want to profit from the war in Ukraine. But we do make money because they buy our weapons.

I'd say it should end sometime in 2026-27, unless those hardcore Ukrainian nationalists or their supporters who profit from the war manage to drag an EU country or two into conflict with Russia.
