Before that goal from Palmer I turned it off. I am finding it very difficult now to carry on watching. Spain is the better team by far and they deserve the win to be totally honest.

England are just the believers and dreamers and can never get the job done when it matters. The last euros final against Italy did not mean we had more experience and more chances of winning this final.

You couldn't beat them because you've not faced anyone decent yet. If every games either way to easy/lucky thats no preparation for a juggernaut like the Spanish. Well deserved in my opinion. Spain have dominated this tournament and won games convincingly, England only just beat Slovakia could and should have been over there and then.

It would have been a travesty if England won, Spain having done the heavy lifting and knocked out Germany and France for us. If England had spawned a win last night after equalizing, like they did against Holland, I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face due to embarrassment.
It was a lucky result for England, play that game again and they should have lost 3 or 4-1. Hopefully the era of benevolent draws for England is over and should they get to finals in future they will do it the hard way if capable, then they would have a fighting chance when meeting a good team in that last match.
*And yes, we were all aware that the Sweats beat Spain 2-0 in qualifying. If you analyse the match, you can see Southgate referenced that game at Hampden, only we haven't got a forward as good as McTominay lol

It's already been said that Spain vs Germany should've been the Final and effectively was the Final with the quality on display. No other game even came close, and it was a travesty that it had to be played out so early.

Bellingham, for all his messianic Adidas adverts and sense of self-importance, didn't produce the goods when it mattered, scoring an unmarked header against a weak Serbian side, whilst counting his blessings in a 96th-minute equalizer whilst in space, an attempt so risky that 99 times out of a 100 would've ended up miscued and him crumpled on the floor, where a simple side-foot would've done.
Yet when it came to the crunch, he was found wanting. A leader grabs the bull by the horns and drags his team through the entire tournament, a la Maradona in '86, not for select Instagram clout.
In fact the only player that played consistently was Pickford and possibly Mainoo from what I saw.
Southgate's insistence on starting a clearly spent Kane, coupled with his unwavering loyalty to a half-fit Shaw highlighted how he'd learnt nothing from previous failures. The Trent-Alexander 'midfield' experiment was also glaringly inept, as was the wastage of another promising generation of footballers under his leadership.
Imagine then, having had several years in the job and still experimenting mid-tournament, getting through by the grace of God against lower opposition. He should've been dismissed after the Slovakia game truth be told.
Contrast that with Spain, who at their last competitive loss against Scotland fielded a fairly experimental team, yet still featured the likes of Rodri, Carvajal et al. Spain's manager tweaked the system and forged a new team a year later, all without playing Yamal at leftback or playing with ten men behind the ball!
Southgate had his chance of salvation, the one opportunity to purge all previous criticism levelled against him and prove his tactical nous. By beating Spain, he'd almost certainly prove he has something about him, and gone out effectively immortalized.....but no, he chose to Southgate it up, shining a light on his easy route to previous 'nearly' achievements. My missus could've guided England to the same Semi-Final & Final combos, and she'd base team selection on who has the nicest arse!
So we'll repeat the post-mortem and ritual we're so accustomed to, cry into our beer etc etc and kid ourselves at how our luck deserted us once again, right before the next tournament swings around and the peasantry bellow out 'Three Lions' in their optimistic stupor.

Forget about "feeling obligated" Mack, the FA DESPERATELY WANT to keep him. Why?
Because he's a yes man, plain and simple.
No matter how dumb the FA's request would be, Southgate would never dare say no.
Mainly because he gets paid* 100K per WEEK not to rock the FA's boat.
* I was going to say "he EARNS 100k per week" until I realised the sheer stupidity of such a statement.
England are well placed to win a tournament in the future, given the abundance of young talent at their disposal.
But as long as Southgate is at the helm, they will never reach the top step. He's too cautious and lacks ruthlessness.
Winners seize the moment. The moment was there (in the minutes leading up to the equaliser and the minutes immediately after).
And then they backed off, like they were playing for extra time.
Spain regained the initiative, created their one big chance and took it.
Southgate needs to say "I'm done". And so for that matter, should Harry Kane.
Because not for the first time, he put his own needs above those of the team, by playing when he was clearly injured and nowhere near 100%. Both he and Southgate need to be called out for that.

I also agree with @mcgameboy Southgate is not the man to win our country a trophy he has come very close but he just can not take us over the line.
But it is not just down to him. This will get some disagreements what I am about to say but Harry Kane is also the other factor. Lets look at some facts. Harry Kane has never ever won a trophy in his career and he is what now 30 years old so he has got what 4 or 5 years left before he retires.
I think most people have heard of his curse and I really do think that is also playing into the fact that England can not win a trophy either. The talent this country has now and the fact many younger players in the squad have won multiple trophies in their short careers so far it is not them to blame rather the demons in Harry Kanes and Southgates minds that is stopping them. I am not saying Kane is a bad player. He is a great player but he just can not win a trophy and I do not think he will before he retires which is such a shame. Yes he won some awards and a golden boot but not silverware.

Then coming back to Southgate 100% he has to go. But then the question is who will replace him? We have not had a great record when we had foreign managers so ideally we need an English Manager, but again who? Not many options currently available to us.

He certainly wouldn't have dared risk losing the gig by thinking of negotiating for a bigger salary.
He'd started at a *mere* £1.5 million per year before his WC Semi-Final and Euro '20' Final impressed the FA so much that they felt compelled to tie him down to £5 million p/a, lest a manager of his 'calibre' and track record felt like walking away.
They obviously felt Southgate was getting a tune out of the squad and fostered some sense of togetherness, and gave the contract extension in 2021, which was always due to be reviewed after Euro '24.

Eddie Howe please. Proven at club level, just look at what he achieved with Bournemouth. One of the better lower league English managers who has come through from grass roots level.
Unlike Southgate, Howe is renowned for attacking football and no doubt would do wonders with the gifted attacking talent England possess, which Southgate chose not to use to his full advantage.
Only sticking point is prising Howe away from the Toon Army, who are now owned by the House of Saud.

Problem is there's a real shortage of high-calibre managers out there.
There's a wealth of 'good' ones, but few in the traditional vein of serial winners like your Mourinhos and Fergusons, whilst the likes of Ancelotti would have no inclination, nor be attainable....
Eddie is not proven at elite level nor won anything of note, but given the 'choice' of top-flight English managers currently, he'd be preferable to Gary O'Neill and Sean Dyche, the only other two!
