Thinking of quitting gambling

This thought has been crossing my mind more and more recently.

This year has been great for me. I have basically walked into every online casino and taken some of their money. Some really nice cashouts of $5,000-$10,000 and being profiting that much overall in some casinos.

And I know they sit there and see how much I play and think its just a matter of time before I go on a bad run and lose it back.

Its slots. Something of luck and out of my control. An edge that doesnt favor me.

I just feel like giving the casinos the finger and saying thanks for your money. Its mine and you will never get it back.

I almost felt like doing it today. Closing accounts. Ive done what ive wanted. Killed the games ive wanted. Gotten the massive wins I aimed for (cept for vikings go rigged but that game can kiss my arse)

Do I hate slots? No not at all. I enjoy some of them. Some can take a flying leap off a cliff...lmao

I did win big and close one account perma. Grande Vegas. I dont like their cashout policy and they didnt care to change it. So I took their thousands and thousands and ran. BUH BYE

Recently I went into my gambling account. Which is my bank account only for gambling. I paid for christmas, a trip to Cuba, clothes, jewelry, a snowblower (O CANADA)

I still have thousands left. Maybe for a hot tub and some other stuff.

I know how rare these wins ive gotten are. I know by the screenshots and comments people provide on this forum. They are rare. And I somehow kept doing it and doing it. But because they are rare. Soon it will just become a chase. Losses.

So why bother?

I think I am going to quit.

Good luck to you all either way, I always wish when I open up the winner screenshots thread, someone has hit a massive one.

Like all gamblers - you should only play if you're really enjoying it.
One of the big UK bookies has the slogan "When the fun stops - stop."

So if it's not fun for you any more, there's never a better time to quit - while you are well ahead!

I've had a terrible run recently - 3 or 4 fairly big deposits gone in double quick time.
(It's all "disposable income" and has zero effect on my off-line life).
But I know I will carry on, cos I just love it! ;)

Not trying to talk you out of it - not for one second, In fact I think this has to be one of the most sensible threads I've read since joining CM!

However Just a tiny piece of 'parting' advice, totally ignore it if you wish lol..

You say you still like slots?

Do you enjoy the whole slotting thing in general (specific slots aside) ?

If so maybe close all your accounts bar one! - Go to that account and put a very low deposit limit in place via their RG settings!

The idea behind this is that if and when you get that 'urge' and fancy a few spins you have a verified and 'ready to go' account you can use but won't be able to go over the top due to restriction you put in place beforehand!

As I say just an idea and Well done / Good Luck!

The sun don't shine on the same dog everyday. Get the hell out before you lose it. You have done well -- don't be a fool like some of us and put it back in. Although that is a shitload of money so I doubt that they will ever get it back.

I would not cancel accounts quite yet though. You seem to be strong willed enough that you will refrain if you want to. Good luck and atta girl

It's been a real pleasure seeing you clean up.

If you are not feeling out of control I would certainly not close any accounts before the holiday season is over. You don't want to miss what Santa may bring. Besides gifts there usually are bonuses that actually favour the player at least a small bit.

I've had a lifetime's worth of luck myself this year. I've lost a good chunk back even with a few notable big wins. It is hard to go back to playing quarters or cashing out a couple of hundred.

Is the hot tub for the deck or the basement?

I don't know how much is left in your gambling account but maybe move 90% of it out of it and let that remaining 10% be the factor that decides when it's time to quit or at least lay off for a while.

You like to think about the idea of quitting. You probably feel good about yourself for thinking about it. You know that if you don't, you will end up dumping at least half of your profits sooner or later.

I don't think you will. There's no thrill being reasonable. I wish you would.

Do it!

There is a saying in Germany "Man soll aufhören wenns am schönsten ist" I think it translates too "always leave them wantig more".
Your Post is totally rational and you mentioned the arguments which are coming to mind of every rational minded individual. At a Point of time you will definitely start losing. And then, it's not that fun anymore. Quit while you are in the green area.

In contrast to some other posts, I would quit no matter if I still like playing slots or not. There are so much things to do that make at least equal fun. I mean you posted hits which some of us won't achieve in a lifetime.

Maybe another point: I think it is easier to quit while you are in "Profitland" instead of quit while you lost some money.
You are thinking about it, so half of the work is done. Do the last Step and say goodbye.

Just my Opinion. In the End you have to decide for your self.

If you're going to "retire" from slotting, then do so on your own terms and while you've got the chance to go out on top.

Bow out like a champion and a winner, so to speak.

I could give up online gambling but not the local casinos. It's a good idea to quit while your ahead. Something tells me many are getting fed up with the garbage the providers are giving us and will realize there's no profit to be made and look elsewhere for entertainment.

It is nice to read that you have done something for yourself and others(paying for xmas) with your winnings! it seems to me that you are a smart person, and your thoughts are very logical. If you do enjoy slots, move most of that money out of your gaming account so the temptation isn't there. Then just dabble at the places you like to play at.

The one good thing is that you do realize that the massive wins are not all the time, and you don't seem to be chasing them. Enjoy your winnings, and have a great Christmas!!

All the best,
LH

All really great and kind comments.

For now, I have decided to take a 7 day cool off from my casinos to take some time and think about it and how I feel in general. I wanted to do this before making any rash decisions I may regret.

So far, I feel the advice of keeping one or two of my casinos open but put a deposit restriction might be viable. I may do that. $150 a month limit just because if I come to find I love this more than I think, I dont want to regret it.

But the more time goes on, the more I feel Im ready to retire. As I said, Ive conquered casinos and their games. DOA=destroyed. Jurassic Park-owned. RTG-Destroyed Avalon 2 destroyed. There is still one slot out there I didnt own and I really went after. Game of Thrones. This game beat me. And I feel done with it and have for awhile. I cant win them all I guess. Just most.

I think the loss of netent has made my decision easier. I lost alot of my favorite games. Games I was always lucky on. No more DOA or SOTS. Sad Panda.

I like to be different from others. And this time, I will be the rare one that walks away a huge winner.

Quitting or cutting down when ahead is easier and healthier than chasing even bigger wins. Because guaranteed the win streak will come to an end. And then it can get ugly.

I use Deposit limits everywhere now, and TAB, so my vice is always now within my own limits. Win or loose there is no fallout. So setting a deposit limit on a limited number of casinos and maybe using TAB on the rest can be a good way forward. I rare fly without a safety belt now ) Only casino I sometimes unwind the depo limit is VS the rest are locked down. And no matter how much we think we own a slot in the end play them long enough they will go into termite mode and devour all that they can ;-)

I remember this well from BDBA and TS2 a few years back. Hit some massive wins, could not loose , it was mine...... until ...........;) the rest is history as they say.

Take a break an enjoy the dollar while it lasts

We need more people with your resolve. You set a great example on how to control your gambling and not let it control you

You've had the good hits and played the games to death, you'd be hard pressed to keep repeating those feats and staying in profit.

Last thing you want to do is put it all back. You're ahead, so stay that way!:cool:

First of all, congratulations on your winnings!

Quitting while ahead is a very wise thing to do. I have cut down on my gambling as well, and play far less frequently as I used to. I still enjoy gambling and slots however, and one thing I find entertaining is watching twitch streams of other people playing.

I know that it may sound strange to some, but it can actually be good fun to watch the likes of Letsgiveitaspin, Casinotwitcher and Casinodaddy play slots. Not everyones cup of tea, but you get to see many different slots, and they are really friendly and good guys.

I say he will stick around, his first post and then the reply are very different and has 2nd thoughts and now thinking if he does this he may regret... doubts are coming........... and the 2nd thoughts those are dangerous either do or your done for before to long imo.

I'm meh I dunno, I would still play because it's what I like to do and I am by no means a high staker, so if i had won something amazing, I am sure i'd still be back playing, just not throwing it all back instantly would be like a warlocks DOTS.... damage over time thing lol
