Yep it's March - and each year we present a toast to Ted Loh during his birthday month - his day is the 9th - and we switch out 32Red's affiliate links with Ted's links for the entire month. Which means that if you sign up with 32Red in March, you become one of Ted's players and any profits that his account makes is sent to his family that he left behind 7 and a half years ago.

So if you haven't joined 32Red yet, please do so here: 32Red Casino

Oh hey, I've got a Ted story to share.

It's 2000-2001, I'm working at WinnerOnline (aka "WOL", one of the first player-facing portals) and we've just launched a public discussion page for online casino stuff. I think it was pretty much the first player oriented forum-ish thing in the business and I'd been tasked with co-managing it. It was horrible, rudimentary software: difficult to post, difficult to follow discussions, just a pain in the arse. And for the first few weeks or so it went nowhere. We knew we were getting good traffic but everyone avoided the "discussions" like the plague.

However, one of the first discussion joiners was this dude named Spearmaster. He gave a bit of advice, started answering people's newbie questions and making his presence felt. He was a bit prickly but the bottom line was that we were happy as hell to have him around because he basically got the ball rolling and the discussions started to take off.

Well after a bit Spearmaster starts taking the odd shot at us on the discussions. "You should help people" he'd say (in public!), "use your connections to get issues resolved" is pretty much what he was telling us. And I'm sorry to say we more-or-less blew him off. What he was suggesting sounded like a major headache and I for one just wanted to write content and test games which is what I'd been brought on to do.

By this time Casinomeister had come on the scene and soon cut out a good piece of the portal turf. Bryan soon did exactly what Ted had been suggesting to us at WOL, it was the beginnings of the PAB service. WOL never did it. Around 2004(ish) we had a big meeting, conference call and all that, to decide once and for all whether we would or wouldn't do complaints. It basically came down to me to decide and I said "no". WOL went into sharp decline within a year or two and I'm convinced that not doing complaints contributed significantly to that. I was eventually invited to find employment elsewhere.

Of course I did find employment elsewhere (here!) and I've been doing complaints as a full time gig ever since. I like to think Ted got a bit of a grin out of how things went and eventually turned out. He never said "I told you so" but man if there was ever a guy that would've been justified saying so it was him.

I have just read your Spearmaster/Ted Loh memorium and I was very touched by it.I'm not a soppy person or too precious about myself, but if I where to have something written about me when I pop my clogs then they would not go far wrong using your piece as a template. He sounds like a fantastic guy and friend.
PS.You do know that Texas Tea is a term used to describe a very potent illegal high?

I also just read the memorium and he sounds like a he was great character.
Well done for keeping his memory alive and giving us a glimpse into one of lifes special people that all too often seem to be taken too soon.
