Sow issues at every casino

Hi guys

so I have been SoW at nearly every casino and because I’m self employed I am never able to supply them the info they want so have stopped trying now….

if I get asked I just say no and go elsewhere

so just been asked for sow at bet365 which is one of my long standing accounts and I did try but they have asked for things I can’t or won’t supply.

I’ve got into a bit of an argument with them over this, as they are saying I cannot prove my level of play is affordable or sustainable…. To which if that’s the case I have questioned why they have taken so long to raise this.
I have searched everywhere to see if there is an actual hard limit set by Uk Gc or similar where casinos need to get extra info on players… as I’ve spent an awful lot with them over the years and if I can’t afford it, then having taken so long for them to tell me this maybe they should take some responsibility for their lack of action.

I am actually tempted to try and take this further as this seems a very double standards approach and as I say we are not talking about a small amount of money !!

but hard to find what the actual guidelines/laws are….. if they are operating within guidelines then fine but I suspect there is something not right here and it’s not as though they haven’t breached aml and due diligence many times before.

i have a feeling SOW/SOF something more is in the pipeline, like i said before i can walk into ladbrokes or mark jarvis in my town go on a FOBT and easily deposit £500 they dont ask where the money is coming from,so why is it any different online, yes its ok to move on to another casino but it will get to the stage that you will run out of places to play at

Probably off track to your original post, but it has just dawned on me why, as players, we do not ask to see the casino's bank accounts and capital to ensure they have the funds to pay us out if we win big? I am sure if every player done that to every casino they are registered with, it would cause a huge amount of grief! Obviously reject their first lot of paperwork insisting you want up to date P&L accounts, Balance Sheets, capital invested by the owners, etc etc!!

Haha I love that!! May try that at casino !!

But there is a fair point …. So I failed SoW at grosvenor online but I can walk into their casino and spunk as much as I want without an issue!!

But it’s ok the UKGC have got out backs 🙄

It’s the way that 365 have gone about it that’s annoyed me and this far down the line I’m really wound up about it.

When I started the SoW question they started off

Do you own or rent your property…

Rent

How much is your rent ….

Errr let’s stop there..:

Seriously, way too intrusive for my liking… I’m not answering these questions

Response

Well I’ll block your account then until you submit the required information !!

Me : wow

I dont agree with it, but when UKGC do assessment of casinos and how they tackle this question. They expect the casino to know everything about your financial situation.

The only we to get stop of the madness, is for players to come to together and public protest against UKGC and use media noise.

Please note that its not even in the LCCP, UKGC is enforcing their own agenda. When operators try to stop them, they threaten to suspend their license.

It is truly bonkers. The simple fact is that they no longer take deposits from a credit card (good news in my opinion) therefore funds are coming from an individual's bank account. If they didn't have the money there, the deposit would be rejected by the bank, simples! Therefore if the deposit is approved by the bank, the player does have the money available to them and it shouldn't be down to the casino to judge them.

Ok, I get the point the player may be gambling with money from a bank loan, etc but in which case, the bank have already assessed the individual to having sufficient funds to repay it.

But as you point out, you walk into a casino with £10k cash, very few questions are asked where it has come from (especially if buying casino chips at £1k at a time).

Or is it a case they are disguising SoW/Affordability as Anti Money Laundering procedures? I suspect there is a big element to AML to ensure funds are from an accountable source, not proceeds of crime and that any payout from the casino has, in essence, laundered the money.

Infact times are changing even in bricks & mortar, if you were to spend 5k in a evening, next time you go in they may well suspend you until you've shown proof.

As a friend of mine found out this year, upon returning to same casino, they would not let him in, they asked a few questions about what he does for a living, (own business) then asked him for proof.

He just said fine I'm not willing to supply that information so he went to another one, clearly he can no longer go in any grosvenor casinos any longer.

You can't just gamble what you want at a land casino. I have to SOW every 6 months and Genting and Grosvenor.

Land-based Grosvenor monitors losing money customers and asks where their income is coming from, but they don't ask for any official paperwork. They accept just a straightforward explanation about what you do for a living, how much you earn and how much you can afford to lose per month. If you tell them that you own a chicken shop in Somalia in a sensible way, that will be ok for them.

Try dropping 20k a month in the casino and they'll start asking for SOW bank statements

I dropped around 14k one evening and the next time i tried to visit them, had to have a conversation with one of their staff. Everything was ok, but i have a feeling that they completely disabled the use of my bank card for purchasing chips for the tables. They said that they don't know about it, and to find out i would need to ring to Grosvenor's head office.

I am self employed and have the same problem with SOW, decieded a while back not to bow down to UKGC crap any more,
any intrusive questions from a casino and I am gone.Drift from casino to casino like some kid banned from every arcade
in town ( memories).Hit the MrQ limit (10k loss limit btw) and moved on to Bet365.Trying to buy time there low rolling and
£500 up at the moment so hoping they use a loss limit rather than a deposit limit before the bullshit starts.
How the fuck did we get to this situation. As with smokers, gamblers have no rights or means of representation.

Yeah they'll let you drop up to about 15k in one session without questioning affordability.

I drop between 20k and 50k per month and I have to do SOW every 6 months, it's normally just me sending a bank statement to one of the managers by email.

The first time I hit SOW i was told that I can continue to play that day but i won't be allowed in again until I send the requested details.. now I don't think it would really matter if I didn't send it in time, they know I have the money to afford my level of gambling but they need to keep it updated every 6 months.

As players we have little power to stop the madness. IMO it needs a cross-casino collaboration, which I’ve said for a while. I don’t see what the casinos have to lose as their trade will continue to dwindle anyway as long as the screw continues to tighten.

Where there’s a will there’s always a way.

Probably because you'd find out more casinos are money laundering, than players

Look at Dr Bet in the UK for example....doesn't so much as have red flags around their business but giant neon signs

You should tell them once dawn strikes, you turn to dust. :p

Yeah, but wow - that is pretty intrusive. I wouldn't want to play there. It's like they are always watching you....

I wonder if they are asking this because they suspect you are playing from outside the UK with a VPN (although I question why anyone not in the UK would want to play at UKGC screwed down casinos…).

The easy answer to the question is you are a shift worker. Midnight to 6am is your evening… 😉

One of the saddest indictments of the state of online gambling in the UK. I mean seriously, asking why you’re playing at a specific time?!

How anyone can be complicit in this utter nonsense is beyond me.
