Scientist believes gravity doesn't exist.

Okay, my mind got hung up on him being a "String Theorist", now what the heck is that? Does he theorize about string and how much does a job like that pay?

So now I have to blame my weight on heat and gas, instead of gravity, how does that work? Doesn't gas make one float, or lighter. Something must be wrong with my heated gas.

Oh hell, now I'm thinking like Skiny!!!!!

String theory is a developing theory in particle physics which attempts to reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity. String theory posits that the electrons and quarks within an atom are not 0-dimensional objects, but rather 1-dimensional oscillating lines ("strings"), possessing only the dimension of length, but not height or width. The theory poses that these strings can vibrate, thus giving the observed particles their flavor, charge, mass and spin.

It looks (to me) that they are saying: "OK, there is no force pulling us down to the center of the Earth but actually we are pushed away by element lighter of of in ever expanding universe"

It is like this: dark matter is actually the newest acknowledged basic element and therefore they are fastest to take place in expansion. all other elements (various atoms) are pushed away because they are heavier and slower.
So gases from the Earth actually trying to go int stratosphere are not pulled back by gravity but pushed back by dark matter.

Of course, I am only guessing what actually they are saying, and probably I have missed the target as many free-kickers at WC with Jabulani :D

I wonder if he came up with this after watching LOST? :D

The only 'dark matter' in LOST was the vacuous brain spaces that the writers brought to story table after Season One. Talk about a promising beginning squandered in the middle only to be violated with a vengeance in the end. Ugh! "Look what I pulled out of my ass!" storytelling really taints my fromage, if you know what I mean.

I have a theory to why this happened.

People were figuring out it was purgatory on the island right from the beginning (it should have been that way in my mind also), and the writers thought they were too smart for "average" people, and decided to change it. Then came the strike, they lost many viewers to that. Then they never answered any questions, and I think people just got sick of waiting and waiting, and never getting the answers they wanted ya know? Then they got a deadline to end the show and they had to come up with "some" answers and pull an ending outta their asses.

Grrrrr....that show really pissed/pisses me off.

Good theory and I'm with ya on the 'pissed off' part. I bailed about 2/3 of the way through Season Two. My wife pressed on but gagged after a bit of Season Three. I watched part of a Season Three episode, fourth or fifth maybe, and could not believe the rubbish they were trying to fob off. No wonder the cast all dove into the bottle, the self-loathing must have been mind-numbing. :barf:

PS. thanks for the "Thanks", I broke 15000!

Well if I new that, I wouldn't have thanked you. :p

I stopped watching for about 1/2 or one season too, but hubby kept watching, so just when I thought I was out, I got pulled back in. :D

He's a little obsessed with this show (even more so now I think)...he still goes to LOST sites and comes downstairs and tells me tid bits that I already knew. LMAO

Did you know Jack was a doctor? Ummm, yes hun I did.

Now if you were thinking like me you would have said you had more interest in a Silly String theorist. Now that would be my kind of job.

Now I'm not entirely sure what the hell these people are on about either. If we're not being pulled toward the earth and rather being pushed away from something else wouldn't the earth be pushed away too? Oh wait, the earth is being pushed toward the sun. And the sun is being pushed toward something else. Why is everything pushed toward something bigger? Actually I guess it isn't unless it gets close enough to it. Everything drifts around until it finds something big enough to get pushed toward. That's a lot of pushing but then I've always preferred pushing over pulling anyway.

How the hell does Silly String work? I'm going to go see.

They delve into these things a lot on the Science Channel.
I seem to recall something about the string theory being applied when they talked about how many dimensions there could possibly be (I *think* 11 was the total they were now agreeing on, don't quote me).
Try watching that new show that Stephen Hawking hosts...your head will be spinning by the end of it:what:, lol. That being said I love watching these shows, sometimes I actually learn a little something even:eek2:
Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman is pretty good too.

The ones that really trip me out though are the "Universe" type shows. I just can't wrap my mind around how much is really out there, and how little it all came from (I saw a really good show about the big bang, and it detailed it more than anything I have ever seen before...it floored me). Never fails to amaze me the people who have the kind of minds who can work out theorys and sometimes prove what has happened or is happening out there in space...
