VS recently added this pile of filth, gave it a go to see if it was any better than the arcade version.
Quick answer is NO, lost £140 in miserable game play, 4 features, 1 × £25, the others shite.
The normal play is just pathetic wins, best was £5 most were ×3 max.
Gave up in the end, went onto Bonanza and at last it delivered paying 440x £1 stake so
all was good in the end.Still not happy wasting the money on Reel King.

I would personally avoid ALL of those old B3 500 JP games that have made the leap from cabinet to online. They're terrible. I mean how can Bastardcrest make the original Rainbow Riches play even WORSE than back in the noughties when it hit the service stations and arcades??

The only way to win good on this is on the gamble ladder, it is possible to to turn small gambles into £1000s.
Check out the bandits streams.

@shadow123 heard it works on
Trust me to pick the 'Potty' one. With a potty RTP like that, I won't be playing it again!

Reel King Potty actually plays worse than Reel King, never seen such dead game play,I can only think that both games must be biased
towards paying jackpots if anyone can stand playing them for a while.
Reel King was actually a pretty good game when released in arcades @£2 play.

With this slot it is all in the gamble ladder feature. The Bandit has taken it up to the top loads of time. Very little going on in the base game, and its a slot you need to play at higher stakes ... saw him take it to around 8k the other week.

Seems like a high roller slot to me where everything is pushed into the ladder feature ...I managed to get it up to 350 from a £2 win then lost the bottle to take it further.

Thanks for that info.
Dont know why they have to bugger up perfectly good play though, anyone trying it for the first time
is going to come to the same conclusion as me,its shite.
They are not going to go gamble crazy on a bad game.

This was the first game I ever did for online some 7 years back. It's a straight conversion of the UK B3 variant of the game, which was derived from the original Section 16 version. It first went on Sky Vegas and they had 6 months' exclusivity I think, before it went elsewhere.

Reel King has been online for a long time now and I agree that 94% RTP these days is not competitive, so when it appears on a site like VS years later it doesn't look attractive to new players among a sea of established games on 96%+. But that's just the way it is unfortunately - there's only one version of the maths for this game online. It's still a better proposition long-term than playing it in a motorway services at 88% though :eek2:

Reel King Potty is a tad better at 95% :)

All the best,
Steve

Steve, Can you explain the maths or game operation further ? Would be interested to read some in depth details , obviously without compromising any of your employment contracts.

Is the best way to play by gambling up the ladder ?

Cheers

Agree, these games are utter shite in their respective online versions...

Hi Steve,

Fantastic to have you on board at CM. There seems to be more and more developers from the industry joining up here which is helping enlighten us all :)

I do have a question regarding the gamble ladder. Does the gamble ladder form part of the games RTP or is it just a separate added gamble which doesn't affect the game RTP i.e. if I collect every win am I still getting 94% RTP or is gamble a necessary strategy to achieve that?

Any other interesting games you've done the online converts for?

Cheers

I saw the original section 16 £2 version at astra prior to release, very impressive and played well in arcades.Something went very wrong when the stakes
were downgraded to £1 which didnt work at all for the game then when stakes were returned to £2, it retained all the shittyness of the £1 version.
Instead of playing around with the gamble or whatever, the original section 16 version should have been revived.

Cheers for the welcome :)

The ladder is nothing more than a 50/50 random gamble which returns 100% and is entirely separate to the game. No different to the red/black card gamble that is seen on a lot of games, just a different presentation which, in all honesty, doesn't give the player the same feeling of control that the card gamble does, as they are not presented with a choice. But despite that, the ladder is nice in the way it shows the player a target to reach and how many gambles they need to win to get there. Either way it's not an integral part of the game, and a lot of online sites don't even have it enabled.

I'm not a developer - the game was developed at Greentube; all I had to do was sort them out the maths and docs and then review the finished builds. A lot of Astra's better UK B3 stuff got converted, such as Bullion Bars 500 and Party Games Slotto. Reel King is the one that has stuck the best though, along with Rumpel Wildspins, which I redesigned for online, along with the maths. I also designed an online version of Clockwork Oranges for Empire Games.

All the best,
Steve

Yeah I was really happy with the S16 Reel King, it played really well and the maths had a bit of depth to it. Still got a big poster of it somewhere, and a load of other S16 games - Little Devils (clone of PGS), Bucks Money, Diamond Lines, Mexicana and so on. Might have to dig them out and scan them :)

The ladder is just a random gamble with a return of 100%, same as a red/black card gamble. You might use it if you were pushed for time and wanted to win or lose quickly.

I'm not going to explain the maths or game operation further, sorry. Mr Kipling might well be a member of Cakemeister forums but I bet he doesn't post his cake recipes on there ;)

Thank you for the response. I assumed the ladder gamble was as described so thanks for confirming.

One more question about your role if I may? You say you're not a developer but did the maths and paperwork. What is the job title for that? Sounds like part mathematician / part compliance which doesn't seem like a natural fit hence my interest.

It's a shame you can't expand upon how the s16 maths had a bit of depth to it but understand the reasons.

Cheers

When Greentube started converting the B3 stuff I was the point of contact from a game perspective to make sure everything I sent them was implemented properly, seeing as I'd done the maths and some design for the games that were being converted. The compliance was nothing to do with me; that all got done at GT. My time at Astra is now spent mainly designing online games, but I still do the maths as well unless it's really complex. Half the fun is having control over how a game plays and tweaking things until the profile and balance is nice, and the game does all the things the player expects it to do, often enough. Astra have just started developing the games in-house, which makes things a lot easier :)

All the best,
Steve
